Been looking at one or two , 2010 , Gen. 1, other than the cruise control, is there much difference between the Gen 1 & 2…?

gen 2 has cruise control, some have electric supension, little tweaks here and there, upgraded cam chain tensioner, upgraded clutch basket.
i have had a gen 1 for neasrly ten yrs love it, i didn,t want electric suspension or cruise, i don,t like the gen 2 clocks either, although most want a gen 2 bike
my gen 1 had a ohlins shock fitted with a bigger spring for 2 up as the standard ones is not up to it, i fitted a manual cct for £150 bikes now better my clutch basket is fine bike been brilliant your choice really

really depends also on how much you can spend, and how important cruise and i know your 14 hasn,t got it but electric suspension is to you
few of us bagging mileage on gen 1 that love them and no issues with them

Arnolds are old established, the odd mixed review, but generally well considered. MOT history is clean, suggesting the bike has probably been cared for. Mileage is a tad high (in UK terms) for my taste, but not a problem if the service record stacks up. Tank damage - annoying, but it happens & provides a negotiating point; as you suggest, just fit a Baglux tank bra & forget about it.

Price ....... that's down to your perception & budget, but there aren't many Gen2s around without spending £2k+ more.

Have you test ridden an S10? They are so very different to a Versys 1000. The V1k is a tall, comfy sports tourer with a creamy engine, ideal for the paved road but pretty hopeless beyond that - very much the SUV of bikes. The S10 on the other hand is very much the capable all-rounder adventure bike, maybe rather heavy for serious off-roading, with a 270 twin that feels more like a V-twin from the helm.

Have fun with the search.

Evening Squibb,
Many Thanks for reply, I should of bought one a few years back, was in , Len Manchesters , Yamaha , in Melton Mowbray, Good lady liked it, but then seen the Versys 1000, she sat on one at the Bike show, so knew how comfy it was, got a good deal, so went with that… but always look back and wish I had purchased that.. had a test ride on one, Gen.1, really liked it.. plenty of poke… it’s the shaft drive, that’s the deal maker.. getting tired with the chain, …

I went from a Gen 1 Versys 1000 to a Gen 2 S10. Personally, I found the motor on my old Versys amazing, I had it for 5 years and toured Europe twice a year and it was brilliant. However, I wanted an S10 from the first time I saw one and I bought a 2017 Gen 2 and I’ve had mine for 5 years now but I do miss the Versys motor but the S10 can pick her skirts up when you give her a big handful. I’m not sure what your budget is, but I would try and go for a Gen 2 but buy on condition and service records, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I have a call around paintless dent repairers in your area, you'd be amazed at what they can do these days, cheaper than a new tank and possibly cheaper than a new Baglux.
