ThankyouI have a call around paintless dent repairers in your area, you'd be amazed at what they can do these days, cheaper than a new tank and possibly cheaper than a new Baglux.

Wow…. I’d say ..Here's a homely Gen 1. Belongs to a member here. Apparently, he's kind of fond of her.

lol nothing its all thereWow…… Dare I ask, what hasn’t it got..!!!
Been looking at one or two , 2010 , Gen. 1, other than the cruise control, is there much difference between the Gen 1 & 2…?
Arnolds is where I got my S10 had a few bikes off them generally good, you could probably crack a deal with them, strong haggling point that dent mileage and age at that price.Arnolds are old established, the odd mixed review, but generally well considered. MOT history is clean, suggesting the bike has probably been cared for. Mileage is a tad high (in UK terms) for my taste, but not a problem if the service record stacks up. Tank damage - annoying, but it happens & provides a negotiating point; as you suggest, just fit a Baglux tank bra & forget about it.
Price ....... that's down to your perception & budget, but there aren't many Gen2s around without spending £2k+ more.
Have you test ridden an S10? They are so very different to a Versys 1000. The V1k is a tall, comfy sports tourer with a creamy engine, ideal for the paved road but pretty hopeless beyond that - very much the SUV of bikes. The S10 on the other hand is very much the capable all-rounder adventure bike, maybe rather heavy for serious off-roading, with a 270 twin that feels more like a V-twin from the helm.
Have fun with the search.
Many Thanks RCinNC, many a true word spoken there..Mileage doesn't concern me as much as maintenance (though mileage is a good place to start the price negotiations). If I see a ten year old bike with low mileage (like 20,000 or so), my first thought is always "wow, this bike has been sitting around a LOT". My gut instinct is that bikes that don't get ridden much also don't get maintained much, and there's a distinct possibility that bike hasn't had the oil or brake/clutch fluid or fork oil changed in years, and that it's probably sat around for long periods of time with old gas in the fuel tank. All that stuff can cause maintenance headaches that you wouldn't get on a higher mileage bike that the owner actually took care of. For a bike with 69,000 miles on it, I'd be more concerned about the owner's maintenance records.
I'd also want to see the bike warmed up and running, so I could get an idea if anything was leaking. Bikes can look awesome when they're freshly washed, but warming it up (and maybe a test ride, or having the owner ride it around the block) will be a dead giveaway that a rear differential seal is leaking, or a radiator, or the fork seals. Leaking fork seals or a rear diff seal wouldn't necessarily keep me from buying a bike, but it would affect the price I was willing to pay.
And keep in mind that on an almost ten year old bike with 69,000 miles, some stuff can be wearing out and need replacement even when the owner is doing good maintenance. I'm a stickler for maintaining my bike, and still, at 61,000 miles, I had to replace my rear wheel bearings.
I've got a 2014 with 97,500 miles on it, and next week I'm taking it for a 1600 mile trip without any trepidation. Good maintenance is definitely the key.
How about an eighteen year old bike with only 1000 miles on it…..talk about sitting around.Mileage doesn't concern me as much as maintenance (though mileage is a good place to start the price negotiations). ok,Morning Rob,
Hopefully Monday lunchtime , had some rain, and I was soaked on Friday after work , so came straight home..
Hi,Just looking into a Yamaha xt1200, 14 plate, it seems it very good condition , been looked after, but….. has 69000 miles on the clock..… thinking of p/x ing, Kawasaki Versys 1000 for it, should I be worried about the miles on the clock, I know they go on forever, what do ya All think…???
Hi Rob,ok,
good luck
Shame your not going in on Saturday, only 15 minutes from me could swing in and have a look with you.Hi Rob,
Been for a look, going for a test ride possibly Thursday / Friday… asked about service , plenty of History, tyres, pads, filters, etc.. but couldn’t find anything about Valve clearance being done.. had fork seals 2019, shaft drive all ok… bit of tarnish here and there, more so on pannier rack and crash bars around the headers … dent in the tank looked worse than what it was on the photo.. not broken the paint.. rear shock very clean.. even the spokes clean… so undecided .... see how the test ride goes , weather permitting and what they will offer , P/X with the Big V……
thats an offer if i was pj1 i would take up handy to have a tenere owner with youShame your not going in on Saturday, only 15 minutes from me could swing in and have a look with you.
