It is good stuff. Even better if you buy the liquid and atomise it using a compressor and spray gun. Aerosol cans are ok, buy they do apply it a little too thickly. The thinner the coating that you mist on the better, apparently.

I put ACF-50 on the NT and it has kept the bike pristine. I haven't put it on the Super10 yet but I should. It's better than WD40 because it doesn't burn off and it lasts a lot longer.

This is one of those weird UK businesses that we just don't have in this side of the pond. The UK guys on the NT forums have this done too. Apparently it's common over there.

A lot of the sport tourers in States that use winter road salt believe in this stuff. I happen to be one.
A wash with soap will remove it, so re-applications are necessary.

btw - If you have corroded fasteners, spray with this and then liquid wrench or any of the other penetrants. The ACF wicks at the molecular level and can accelerate the penetration of most.

Oh, I believe in it, I have a can of ACF-50 in my garage. But I have to wash my own bike and apply it myself - there are no professional companies like Halo Bike Cleaning, here.

(Paying Hooters girls to scratch up my windshield for charity is not the same thing.)

Just remember to mask brakes and tyres as it does a very good job of reducing friction! The Halo guys put a large cloth over each wheel to stop any overspray.

To apply to wheels put some on a cloth and rub it on. A little goes a very long way, and it creeps into all the little nooks. You need to top it up once water does not bead on the surface, usually after a few soapy washes. If you simply hose the worst of the muck off it should last months.

To remove ACF completely I use Sdoc motorcycle cleaner. Superb stuff.

Hope that helps and is not too basic for you guys. I am thinking about a Halo franchise myself some time in the future. If you did the same across the pond you would (forgive the pun) clean up.

Regards,

Matt

it makes your bike look like its brand new too, done mine the other week, amazing stuff ive been using it for years. before the bad weather comes wash your bike, then cover in ACF-50 (not the paint work) it does nothing to help a laquered finish, but metal, plastic, rubber hoses, it looks great, after riding a few weeks in shit weather, salt, rain, mud, just jet wash your bike and it comes up spankers ::008::

Great question. Science appears to say it's a tie: http://www.tc.faa.gov/logistics/grants/pdf/1996/96-g-001.pdf

Aircraft Spruce categorizes them the same, pricing is pretty similar: http://www.aircraftspruce.ca/menus/cs/corrosion.html

This topic does seem to have run its course in the previous thread: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=652.0

Good luck!

I did my own testing, this was the result after 3 months in the garden over winter with me regularly re-applying salt!

The upper bracket (1) was just bare metal, te lower section (2) had a tiny smear of WD40 puton it, the untreated metal actually rusted completely in a few days,

The lower one was half ACF-50 (4) and the other half WD40 (3) this was applied really thick with both oils and then never re-applied, it took a while before the WD40 allowed any signs of rust and if applied more regularly than ACF50 does a pretty good job.

I am also a fan of the application by compressed air gun, it really does protect the bike throughout (including electrical connectors) and give a like-new shine to every part of the machine

Rasher - Love the test and actual real results. I've seen something similar from the US Navy, which cost a LOT more and they got about the same results.
