Limey - You must have read my mind.

I put my deposit on the Tenere, came home and that night's news was that a nuclear reactor had been destroyed in some Japanese town called Fukushima.

Who would have known that our electronics and some other parts came from near the reactor site, or that Japan would go on rolling blackouts because of lost electrical supply.

Still waiting for parts for mine. The recall notice said don't ride it, screw that b.s. If the part breaks, then I'll park it. I'm going to check with them today about the part availability.

I got the recall letter in the mail last night. Had my new S10 about 3 weeks now. Love it like crazy! Will get the recall thing done soon most likely but I sure as hell ain't gonna stop riding it! Does not seem like a big deal.

if you want to see the job of replacing this shaft take a look at p19 in this thread - the job is done on an MT09 Tracer/FJ09 but the process is the same http://fj-09.org/thread/875/intent-recall-fj09-march-2015?page=19

Reference parts shortage:
To reiterate what I said above: the parts can be obtained in the US but your dealer will need to raise a warranty repair for "faulty gear shift". If this is done the dealer will be allocated a parts kit for the job. This is to stop dealers stockpiling kits "just in case"

My parts are in and I'm booked in a week from now. No June backorder in Canukistan.

I contacted my dealer yesterday to schedule my recall.
I told him that I had planned a trip next week. He advised against riding the bike until the repair was complete. He said that the he thought the Tenere parts were not on back order (other model are on back order) and hopes to run me through this week!
We shall see. -JEP-

Gonna get the recall work done tomorrow (Saturday). Parts dept. has set aside a replacement for me. They said it would take an hour or so to do.

I bought my 2015 in mid January. About 3-4 days ago I got my letter that mine needs the recall. I called my dealer who already has the new parts ordered. They say they need to pop it open and change part of the linkage. If it were to break during shifting you would be stuck in that particular gear. The letter says not to ride the bike. The dealer agrees but says if you do shift gently. I have an appointment scheduled for May 2 so I will not be riding the bike for a little over two weeks. I actually was planning to leave on a 3-4 day ride but I guess that will have to wait now.

I never received a notice, but was having the dealer change my tires and asked them to check. Mine is one of the covered VINs.... :'( . Luckily, they can do it by Sunday, but I still lose a weekend of riding.

I asked the Service Manager that question yesterday. He said he hadn't had any Teneres break but did have a couple other models break and one damaged the transmission

Just got back from getting the recall repair done. I asked the tech doing the job about whether this was a big problem and he said there was one that broke in Europe, no problems in the US so far but Yamaha did the recall just to be safe. It looked pretty cool all taken apart.

Oldish news. Mine was an affected bike, I bought in April and they had the part but hadn't installed yet so I had to wait a day to take home. The part itself is not a lot bigger than a paperclip.

No need to delete. The thread is now merged with the existing one so the noobs can be aware.
