    Rider Down

You guys are the best! Thanks so much for your well wishes and positive energy. I am indeed on a detour to my original plans to travel to South America. My shoulder is badly broken but well on the way to healing. I'm heading for my first post-op appointment this morning. Have been well looked...

Bike won't start after checking valve clearances

That may have contributed. Lifted the gas tank and disconnected, re-aligned the hose. Still wouldn't start until letting it sit for an hour. It's going now - hopefully stays that way. Thanks! Liz

Bike won't start after checking valve clearances

Wondered about that - Remote possibility that the wires on #2 cylinder were swapped but unlikely. Anyways - got it started!!! :) Thanks.

Bike won't start after checking valve clearances

So the valve clearances are fine. Have put in new spark plugs, new air filter. Thought all the connections, hoses, throttle bodies, gas lines all went together as they should. No nuts and bolts left over. But it won't start. Almost catches but stops just short of that. Have read the thread...

    Almost done!

This won't be exciting for most of you but it is for me! :) After much searching, found a valve cover gasket online - the last one in stock - had to have it shipped to a US address (OEM Rules). I picked it up on July 1st and got just about everything back together this morning (with help)...

    gasket sealer

Thanks everyone for your tips! Much appreciated. Now I've just got to get the gasket which should be arriving today at a US PO Box. A delight to look forward to going across the Niagara Falls border on a holiday weekend in both countries! :)

    gasket sealer

I know this is a probably a no-brainer, so please bear with me. :) When I took the valve cover off (and wrecked the gasket) - it didn't appear that there was any sealer on the gasket. The manual specifies 2 different sealer options. Is sealer necessary and if so, does it matter which one...

    Valve cover gaskets backordered

They had 1 left but will only ship to a US address - which fortunately I can provide. Should have it soon! Thank goodness!!!

    Valve cover gaskets backordered

Great - I have that (replacing the cover) to look forward to. It sure was awkward. Making sure the gasket's seated properly could be tricky. Hopefully every time it gets easier. Now to get that gasket! I've heard www.yamahapartshouse.com has them in stock but they were closed by the time I...

    Sand on spark plug

Yes - it ran fine when parking it in the garage. Thanks everyone for the reassurance and helpful tips.

    Valve cover gaskets backordered

Let's just say it got damaged taking the valve cover off. Not replacing the clutch cover gasket.
