    Heated Grip (O.E.M.) Failure

The OEM control system is a big, imprecise knob. The OXFORD is a push-button with 5 pre-sets, more accurate and easier to use by night. It automatically shuts off with the bike, and resets at zero when start over. There is no need to try to keep the OEM control system with the OXFORD...

    Time to upgrade the suspension

Two years ago (June 2014), Ted Porter at the Beermershop quoted me a three-way Yacugar (with high speed / low speed compression adjustment) similar to the Wilbers 641, $1,188. I doubt the price went lower with time. That is +69% over the $700 I found on Ebay for the Wilbers 641, or $488. I...

    Heated Grip (O.E.M.) Failure

I bought the OEM heated grip, and they lasted about a year. The failure was the electric cable routing on the right side that worn out with twisting the gas grip. I went to OXFORD for less than a third of the price. The design is different, and way more reliable. The only plus of the OEM is a...

    Time to upgrade the suspension

For me too, it was time to upgrade my rear suspension since my OEM shock is now 28,000 miles, and my health requires a more plush/compliant suspension. I did some research, and I came to the conclusion that most products sold in the USA are very expensive, the most affordable being the shocks...

    I need a service ???

Akos, I haven't seen your post before. If you haven't got your bike serviced yet: 1) shifting is rough and kick: Grease the lever axis. Cost 5 min and some grease. See http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=15230.0 2) Knocking noise: very likely coming from the clutch basket model...

Recommended shop for valves adjustment North County San Diego?

I won't say, since I am sure they didn't charge me the full price. All you have to know is that they charge $85/hr, and they do not seem to extend the time spent but be honest on the time spent. The valve check is something like 5 hrs according to Yamaha schedule. I don't know what they will...

Recommended shop for valves adjustment North County San Diego?

OK Guys, I found the place to get my Super Ténéré serviced in North County San Diego: Oceanside Cycle Supply. After being overcharged and my bikes butchered by local dealerships (Triumph 955i Tiger and BMW R1200GSA), I was so afraid of have a "pro" touching my Yamaha 1200 Super Ténéré, I was...

Swingarm, Shock Arm Lubrication Question - Anyone Lubed Those Yet?

Thank you. But I am still puzzled. Do you wrench the swing arm axle from the right side (side of the brake pedal) or from the left side (nut 3 on schematic). If it is the right side, the nut 3 has to be held while wrenching the axle out, and to tighten the axle back on. Is it the case?

Swingarm, Shock Arm Lubrication Question - Anyone Lubed Those Yet?

I am about to do the swing arm maintenance, but I am fearing that the nut (3) going onto the axle (4) requires a 27 mm socket, and there may not be enough clearance to introduce a 27 mm socket with its 1/2 wrench. Are you using a regular socket or a special one such as low profile? Also is there...

Recommended shop for valves adjustment North County San Diego?

I don't really want to make this thread a bashing thread, but... I brought my 09 GSA in 2013 to BMW Escondido to replace a bearing gone bad in the clutch/gear box case. Cost $2300 (poor engineering and typical BMW pricing). The bike was returned to me with the casing broken. The "ear" in the...

Recommended shop for valves adjustment North County San Diego?

Guys, time has come to have the first valves check and adjustment on my 2013 Super Ténéré at 24,000 miles. I live in North County San Diego (Carlsbad) and I have had pretty bad experiences with dealership's mechanics in the past. NCY (North County Yamaha) in San Marcos charged me $1200 for the...

    Tank bag?

I purchased a magnetic tank bag from Oxford. The same company which does the excellent heated grips. http://oxford-products.com/us/products/1st-Time-Magnetic-Tankbag.html It is $60. And I did several rides with it, and it was just perfect for my usage, never moved or be a nuisance in any way...

Where does this part come from?

Guys, While cleaning up and preping the bike for a 2,000 miles ride starting tomorrow, I found a loose part. It is a rubber cap transparent of rather large dimension. I found it between the hydraulic clutch command and the shifter on the left side of the bike. Any hint on where it goes back and...

    why such bad reviews

I think you all miss the point. The fact is that Yamaha screwed up. Big time. Yamaha introduced a brand new motorcycle to fight the adventure bike title held by BMW for ages. What did Yamaha came to the gun fight with? A pocket knife, or rather a diamond in the rough. Let's summarize: 1)...

    Givi panniers/passenger space

FOLLOW UP - ERRATA I complained that the cases were delivered with ONE key for each. Actually, inside the case is another one taped in, without plastic grip. That makes TWO keys! ::002:: Caution: To get a set of cases with matching locks, you need to order a SET OF TWO, not two cases like I...

    Givi panniers/passenger space

I just received the 33L Givi Trekker side bags with the Givi mount, yesterday. I haven't rode yet with them. But out of curiosity I sat on the passenger place with the bags on. And I have plenty of leg room, and the cases are not in anyway a problem for the passenger. I would say that the handle...
