2014 clutch basket is noisy

I have a 2013 ST, and I have had the CCT replaced under warranty, and I ordered and replaced the clutch basket with the new 2014 model (reference 2BS-16150-00-00). The installation was very easy. The rocky noise has disappeared, but not completely. When idle, the lever clutch pulled, the engine does a nice "normal"noise. But when the lever is released and the clutch engaged, an inelegant rattling can be heard. And it hurts my artistic sense :)
At first, I though I screwed up the clutch installation, although I did everything by the book, using a torque wrench, and no spare part was left on the table at the end of the job. So I re-opened the engine and verified everything. All normal. And the clutch works fine. so the question is:
WHERE DOES THIS RATTLE COME FROM?
I am attaching the schematic for the clutch. I changed part 1 and 22. Is there any other part that may need to be replaced? The bike has 15,000 miles, and I am very gentle on the clutch (no off-road). Any suggestion welcome.

Several suggetions and ideas. I don't have your drawing while I write this do I'm going to edit it.
Do you have clutch plate 11-9 clocked in the correct position? Are both marks on the plate(s) lined up with basket in the correct clocked position? I always replace 26-24 also. Are #16 at the correct TQ? Make sure 12 is 100% seated. Sometimes it hangs on the last steel plate but can still be 'installed' incorrectly. I've seen wear on 24-25-26. They are cheep, replace them.

lots of stuff to rattle at idle, when at speed or you have the clutch pulled in, these things are under tension and do not rattle. ::021::

I'm a truck guy. Always have more trucks than makes legitimate sense.

Had a 2006 F250 standard transmission.
Diesels are noisy, at least back then.
When idling, if you pushed the clutch in, you would think it turned into a gas burner. Much quieter.

Same concept. :)

Thank you guys for your suggestions and remarks.
Let's get it straight: do the happy 2014/15 Super Ténéré owners have a nice and silent clutch, or do they share my sorrow with a noisy and rattling clutch?
BTW, the engine while cold is rather civilized, but when hot, and in traffic the engine gets so noisy to my ears that more than often I keep the clutch engaged.
I have hard time believing that a great motor company like Yamaha cannot produce a decent engine with noiseless clutch. I have been riding for 40 years, I had numerous motorcycles (and mopeds), and I never experienced this.
Maybe the Barnett clutch plate will solve the issue.
Maybe some parts need to be replaced with the basket for smooth functioning... I just hope someone can share his (successful) experience.

Early on, this motor was often called a box of rocks, agricultural, etc. I guess we all got used to it. It's won most of us over to the point we now prefer its "character".

Im not there to hear yours. But Im betting it sounds just like everyone else's.
Hope it wins you over.
I think Yamaha actually aimed to build this motor exactly like it is. They have a history of parallel twins. This being from that lineage, add the 270 degree firing order.

It's no sewing machine.

I have 2013 ST and didn't like the valve train/clutch basket noise. Yamaha offered to change the tensioner for me, so I had the 2014 clutch basket replaced by the dealer at the same time since they were taking the cover off anyway.

I probably should have done the work myself because when I picked up the bike the clutch would not fully disengage. The tech inspected and repaired it, and claimed there was a bur on the new basket keeping the clutch from disengaging - seems kind of unlikely but I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway after installing the new and improved '14 parts, my bike rattles more than before - kind of reminds me of a dry clutch Ducati. The clutch is smoother in the 2500-3000 rpm range though.

I bought a long term warranty, so I figured I would not worry about, but I'm kind of paranoid and lately I've detected a slight clutch chatter, so I'm planning on taking the cover off an inspecting the installation - thanks to Tabasco for the inspection advise - any other input would be appreciated.

Seems unlikely that the basket is making the noise since its completely rubber damped. (No springs). Might as well check that the CCT plunger is in full contact with the chain guide. Should be tight against the chain.

Yup sounds like they maybe didn't know what they were doing or the correct procedure.

Owners of older Ducatis (dry clutch) like to say "loud clutches save lives".

The clutch basket itself is driven by a straight cut gear set......what you most likely hear with the lever out in neutral is the backlash in those gears.....when you pull in the clutch lever it allows the clutch discs to slip and not have to transmission input shaft directly engaged and that significantly dampens the noise of the backlash. You will hear this in some degree on most motorcycles. I would really like to say all motorcycles but I have not heard them all yet.

Hope this helps

Sounds like a new life goal. Ride all the motorcycle brands and models to listen to the clutch!

Thank you Mark. It just makes a lot of sense. Let's find another topic to worry about.... ;D

Did things ever get fixed right?
