I test rode a 1000 VSTROM and it was like a tractor compared to the GEN2.

I did some "tune up maintenance" on a friends V Strom 1000... Afterwards he asked that I go ride it 50 or so miles.... I did and I really enjoy anything on two wheels, truly....... But the V Strom 1000 is quite different than the Super Tenere in MANY ways......

Occasionally the conversation comes up with bike friends about when the Super Tenere becomes 15-20-25 years old.... People will start finding low mile Super Tenere bikes for crazy cheep because they are old...... What an AWESOME bike for virtually no money...... There is a whole other wave of enthusiast just a few years away ! !

I completely disagree - I owned a 2019 which I picked up new in 2021 before switching to the my current 2022 ST 1200 I find the ST has quite a bit more torque event the specs prove it. V Strom 100 HP LBS75 FT of torque the ST 12 110 HP and 86 FT Lbs. The torque was one of the first things I noticed right away vs the Strom, ST pulls like a train the Vstrom needs to be run at slightly higher RPM to get into the useful torque range and the new 1050 needs to be revved slightly higher to get into the useful torque if you run them too low they get choppy until you run it up in the revs.

It was just really a test ride. Not my bike, certainly not pushing it. Not my bike.
I have experience on MANY bikes…. If I I didn’t know better it’s a good bike. It can get people out and have a great time.
But the head to head comparison…. I’ve actually forgot. There were a few things certainly different, but no my horrible.
I do remember my big bitch at the time was I could not operate the High Beam headlight. I was PO trying to figure how to find it and use it.

I’m a dumb ass, I found out after the ride it’s a push / pull high beam. Duuuuuuuu

never mind me….. I’m a nuuuube

Thats funny because I find the high/low beam switch on the tenere terrible, unnatural in its location. and usage.
Yamaha has a fantastic set up on their snowmobiles high/low beam switch, it pretty much sits where the thumb sits with your hands on the bars in their natural position. You don't even move your hand, just push with the thumb, unlike their bikes.
Don't know why they didn't copy that setup instead of their traditional setup.

Just came back from a recent trip with heavy offroad and some mixture of sand/rocks tracks. while my S10 performed well in terms of reliability and got be back safe, I lost in the meanwhile the rear suspension that became jumpy despite not seeing any leak and after making it very firm once back home...I think it started aging after 13 years....so once fixed it will be sold and I will move probably to the KTM 690 as I feel the enduro/dirt bike will be the next joy in lieu of long distance touring.

Yeah I’m going the other way. Ditching off road and keeping the S10

Would be interesting to know how long have you been on offroad and why ditching it while keeping the S10

Exactly, the S10 is not a dirt bike or trail bike. Yamaha has it under road bike category for a reason.
Sure its an ADV bike but that does not make it a dirt bike. Its up to individuals to decide how far they will take it.
I do a fair amount of off tarmac riding but when the rubber hits the ground I prefer a dirt bike on dirt and the S10 on tarmac.

I got a 690 a while back, it's a good big dual sport. I took it on some trails that wouldn't have been challenging on my old 450 dual sport and it was a lot more work getting there, but I did it. The ride there and back was much nicer. It's a real 50/50 dual sport in my opinion, goes well on the highway and it can do a lot of the trails I want to do. I would never have taken the Super Tenere where I was. Someone else might try it, might even do it better than I did on the 690...but those kind of riders are rare. One of my friends is always talking up his BMW GS as the ultimate machine and he's a good rider, but I don't know if he could get there.

In the end, just ride and enjoy your machine!

Agree...... The best part about a Tenere is that it is and can be anything 'people' want it to be... It certainly not a MX bike but I have "accidentally" gotten into some crazy places with the Tenere and the bike has easily gotten me out and we had a great time..................... Then I road it back across the country home....

Again I agree, Ive had the opportunity to see and had my hands on a million Tenere bikes... Ive always found its "cool" that ALL of the bikes started off the same out of the factory. The owners have changed there bike to how they want to use it, and what best fits them... And Ive seen from A - Z. It's kinda strange to see all the different configurations out there in the world. All the same bike, and what I great bike it is..... I have mine set up tall and super stiff for off road. I do ride mine like a MX 450 off road and have completed several BDR's and other countless off road trips.. In my own brain, I do have a BIG dirt bike.... LOL. Maybe Im a compete fool, but the bike does what I want, takes all my bags and camping gear (totally self sufficient) and we still go out and do 1000 miles off road..... I love this thing.... Ive come to realize over the years that very few riders climb on this type of bike and go tackle off road and ride off road like I do... Thats just what I like and it's so cool that its confirmation to every other owner that the bike CAN do this type of off road if the rider is willing ! What a total hoot ! ! Our next BDR is IDBDR, I believe this is 1380 Off-Road miles........

Yup. Nobody should ever consider the bike for off road.
I had a KTM 690 and sold it because for where I ride there was too much overlap in how I used the Tenere. The 690 could do more but generally I didn't need to.

But then there are muddy limits when it's good to have friends around.

I agree with you as it's all in what you make of it. In my short time with my Tenere, I've been impressed at what it is capable of. I've ridden in places I never imagined it would go, and I've just scratched the surface of what others, like yourself, have done with this bike. It is far from a perfect bike, but as an all around package, it is well worth owning. I understand why there is such a loyal following.

Yes Sir ! Ive been in MANY - MANY situations just like your photos ! ! I have SO MANY snap shots in my mind that I wish I had photos of ! I would think the vast majority of Tenere owners would even be MORE impressed with their own bikes, If I had those photos...... They are not "showing off" type photos, but "continuing down the trail" photos...... Some folks know this statement, others do not.............. when you're on a 800 mile BDR, there are many sections you might be 150 miles into a trail and you find something hard or something you dont really want to ride......... Well, guess what............. you cant turn around 150 miles........... You gotta find a way, challenge the bike, challenge yourself.... This bike is a beast in the right hands ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Full on dedicated trail bike, NO............. take you and get you out of virtually any situation, YES
