. . . . She was ready to make the transition from 2 to 3 wheels. . . .
I love riding bikes. Basically my main mode of transportation. But when I can't do the two wheels anymore, that will be it. Three wheels do not have the maneuverability through traffic of a bike, and don't have the weatherproofness of a car. And, especially around here, I can't imagine being stuck in traffic without a/c or heat.

My Jeep, or the wife's MX5 will have to satisfy my open-air desires when the bike has to go.

I have a few friends riding Spyder’s, yes they have experienced a few electronic issues but once they were fixed they seem to be about as trouble free as you could expect from any vehicle. If I ever switch to a trike the 3 cylinder Spyder would very likely be my choice.
Our old 2012 Spyder was easily the most unreliable vehicle of any type we've ever owned. I'm crossing my fingers hoping they've worked out most of those issues.

My KTM dealer is also the largest Spyder dealer in the world. I'm told they are dramatically better than they were in 2012. That wouldn't take much. Hoping for the best. We'll take this one on it's inaugural trip in a few weeks.

The Spyder checks a lot of boxes for DM. Hope it proves to be a good ride for her.

None of the advantages of a bike but all of the disadvantages of a car.

Shhh. Dirt mom might get to thinking a BMW convertible might check more boxes.

Nah, over the years there's been a European convertible parked next to her truck. She has almost no interest in that one. Say the word minivan and you get her attention real fast.

The Mazda is much cheaper, and more reliable. Looks is going to be subjective.
Edit: but the Mazda does use the Beemer manual trans.

The wife has a weird love affair with her Can Am, similar to the ugly duckling or the son/daughter that does no wrong.
The thing (I call it the "thing", she hates that) can break down over and over or give problems and she loves the darn thing no matter what.
Not something us guys would get away with, too many issues and out the door you go.

Regarding us traitors, I've been thinking about this a lot recently. I loved my S10, as I'm sure the rest of us did, and I DO miss it.....I think it's just the fact that our beloved Teneres are starting to fall into the same category that the KLR, DR, TW, and other bikes have: A perfect platform at one time, still mostly relevant, but time and technology have just passed them by. (A point Tabasco has so eloquently voiced more than a few times in this thread.)

It just pisses me off that Yamaha continues to rest on their laurels with this wondeful machine and not make any effort to at least try to keep the competition in sight, from a technology perspective. Many of us have been waiting in vain for an MT-based Tenere with a triple and upgraded electronics, something that can keep up with the Jonses. (I said many of us, I don't even pretend to speak for all.) Watching all of the S10's peers coming out with cool new stuff while we receive yet another year of BNG has finally pushed some to say "screw it" and grab the shiny new thing.

The fact that even though some have jumped ship but we're still hanging out here on the greatest ADV forum on the planet is a testament to this forum and it's members. Sure, we may piss some members off that we're no longer on a Tenere, and we like to extol the virtues of our new choices, but we're still here!

When Yamaha introduces Gen 3 of the S10, I'll be the first to jump back on one. Until then, I'll hang out here, share the good and bad of my new ride, and continue to contribute everything I learned about the Tenere with anybody who'll listen. (Besides, those guys in the KTM forums are dweebs)
Well put!
thx

I bought my 2013 ST in June of 13. Only the second motorcycle that I've owned for ten years. I did hold on to a CBX for 22 years, but it was 3K mile safe queen. The wife bought me a Grom in 2014 as an anniversary present, so it will probably be the all time winner in a few years. May outlast me.

The CBX was never updated again (just like the S10)….and many of us wish we had one in excellent condition in the garage…just to ride it once in a while….so why get rid of the S10?….if We thought that the S10 was so good, why not just retire it?...and we ride a new one, with all its technology...while very occasionally we ride the S10 to "remember", just as if we had a CBX (which today it would seem that even the S10 is a better motorcycle than the CBX)…
It’s like a kiss with a beautiful woman….when you do it every day, over time that kiss devalues…..but if you meet her on very rare occasions and you kiss her… that kiss will always have the same value….

The bigger V-Strom has evolved steadily over the years, into a good all round adventure style bike and IMO is now looking as a potential alternative to the Super Tenere, a good, dependable bike.
Very chequered production and dubious finish. Was going to say pretty ugly, but all Adventure bikes are much the same. Their new 800 looks pretty good though, much like the new Transalp. I can see both doing well.
Just had a look at the new model and up pops a new 1050 Vstrom, didn’t know they’d done another update, thought it was replaced by the new 800. Certainly looks like an option.
