You're selling your bike, you're moving on, what NEXT ?

I would love to ride a T7 off road and have a great time... My issue is I typically need to travel for many hours, or even days for the good dirt. While there I really need to carry all my camping stuff. So now Im back to a bunch of highway to & from, and carrying all my junk on a T7 has now kind of ruined the small, light weight bike fun.... I suppose I'll keep riding my big bike like a 450 off road. LOL It has enough power on the highway use, and it's never kept me from riding everything I throw at it off road (fully loaded)
Maybe in 30-40 years (I doubt Ill make it) I might get a little light weight bike, and hotel it every night, probably get a hotel next to a steak joint and go eat a good meal before a good nights rest. LOL. ................... Probably never happen... LOL Ill be almost at 95 years old? Right ??

Note: lots of personalities on an open world wide forum... but gotta tell ya, Ive been here from the beginning and I still love this forum and dig all you folks. Deep down we are all like minded riders that like the same thing, being on two wheels ! Hope each member has a great day, be safe out on your motorcycle ! Enjoy the ride !

I can't help but think you can two T-12s for one of those. He could have an IL Tenere, and an AZ Tenere. No haulin' needed.

Easily, but the wife isn't doing any MC off road. I would have gone the cheaper route with a dedicated AZ T7 or 890 if it were just for me. My wife was also insisting on 4 seats for guests. The Yamaha RMAX4 fit the bill and took the least space in the garage.

Cool...the modern day ATV. I'm a big believer in making it easy for your wife to join you. Great for both of you. Congrats on the new toy. I bet you'll both have a great time with it.

That is EXACTLY why I sold my 690 and now have the 890 (non-R) on order. Riding 200 to 300 miles at higher speeds on the thumper just made me feel beat up, and spent by the time I got anywhere. Or I would put the bike in the back of the truck and try to convince DM she wanted to drive me far away and then drive home alone.

So it was probably no real surprise that DM was all in when I got home from the BDR-X in PA and announced I needed to get a better compromise bike. It started with an order on the "R", but when I saw the updated non-R, and the way they were marketing it, I got a bit queasy. When DM watched the R marketing video she said, "you didn't ride that kind of stuff on the 690, you're not going to do that." And when she saw the marketing on the non-R, she just looked at me like I was stupid. Yes, dear....that IS exactly how I do ride. I switched my order. As always, she is that sometimes unwanted, but very beneficial, voice of reason...and this is the second time she has picked my next new bike even when I was distracted by the shiny object over there.

Could not agree more! One of my favorite things from this forum has been watching screen names turn into real live people that are one or two bikes ahead of me or following me into that next curve on that day's ride, or they are in that cabin, tent, van, or trailer right over there. I absolutely love shaking someone's hand for the first time and being able to say I've known you for years. It never gets old....(yes, Patrick, even you).

This is pretty much why I've decided to split my future trips between long distance excursions on the big bike and more adventurous trips throwing the WR250 on the hitch hauler of the Taco, using it as home base for some more spirited off-road exploring in distant places. Agree on the fantastic personalities here, too many other forums full of cliques and assholes.

I have not been able to do a lot of riding on my 690, but did get the wheels in the dirt a few times. I did a quick overnight camping trip on it to test out the Mosko Reckless 80 setup, works well. Leading up to and during the holiday season I took care of a few things to make it more to my liking for the adventures that I plan to use this bike for.

1: Heated grips
2: Throttle lock / "Cruise control"
3: Engine/radiator guard (will likely put some sort of folding pegs on here for a different footing position during long highway rides)
4: Rade Garage Rally fairing

I'm signed up for the ADVrider Death Valley Rally in March, that should be a bunch of fun. The 690 is a lot easier to navigate in the sand and rocks than the big T, it's also not as nice on the highway. Nobody is less surprised about both of these points than I am. That's the deal, all of these bikes are a compromise so you have to decide where you want to give and where you want to take. We're only on this earth for a short time so try to enjoy what you want and don't let anyone else tell you that you're doing it the wrong way because you're not doing it their way.

I had my 2012 S10 since 2014 and thought about changing but only because I felt I spent too much time with the bike and wondered if I shouldn't change for the sake of changing...

I looked around and the usual suspects available in my neck of the woods is the KTM 1290 and the GSA...yet I did not feel that the extra cash required is justified....now I thought about few mods to feel like I have a fresh S10:
1- ECU flash (someone is offering 180 euro to do a remap) but I am yet to know what I will ask for
2- remove the dB killer of my akrapovic

Once I see the changes then I will make up my mind

We have a lot of wannabe Long Way Round people here in SoCal and I never see the Triumph. Mostly big KTM's and BMW's. I do like the Tiger Explorer, but where are they?
