Yeah, my car has a keyless ignition and even unlocks when I touch the door handle. I've had it for four years and have found it habit forming. I also have an older f150 and myself expecting it to unlock when I touch the door handle, or I go to press the non-existent ignition button. I shake my head each time I do this, but actually do like the keyless option. The fob also has a functional key that can be removed to unlock the door and the car will start if I hold the fob against a certain spot on the steering column. So at least I have some backup should the fob fail (I've replaced the batteries once). And my fuel tank has no lock at all.

I'd like this on a motorcycle but it seems like there are reliability issues with the motorcycle option. And I'm not a fan of not being able to access the gas tank, relying on a digital handshake + mechanical action. Too much to go wrong.

Nope. I know I'm in the minority, but I have never had a desire for keyless anything. Especially now that Kias and Hyundais are being stolen with a smartphone. Yes, I know that physical keys are not a guarantee, but it gives me piece of mind.

Actually the ones getting stolen were the KEYED versions, using a USB cable hack.

Well, wouldn't have thought that was even possible. USB cable compromising a keyed ignition. I had assumed that it a signal type of thing.

I’ve seen a few S10’s for sale where the owners say they purchased the bike as a leftover from a dealership. I’m wondering how they found these deals? Is there a specific website I’m not seeing? Down side is it won’t have some of the farkles or performance flashes.

For me it has been very rare to see a Tenere in stock at a Yamaha dealer. When I was looking to trade my 2013 for a new 2018 I talked to several dealers that weren’t the least bit interested in ordering a new Tenere for me. Finally one dealer told me the location of 2 dealers that actually had Tenere’s in stock so I went there and managed to make a decent deal.

In '16 I went into my dealer to get me an '16 ES 60th Anniversary. Yeah, that didn't happen, Yamaha had sent them all "down under". But they had a black ES. I tried getting them to switch tanks, but that didn't happen either. But they told me they were getting a "blue" one in next week or two.

10 days later, I was signing papers on my "blue" Tenere. Hadn't even seen it in person. (knew I didn't want black) Finished the paperwork and walked outside to see her for the first time. As it was a typical sunny Texas day, the COBALT blue quickly made me forget about the 60th Anniversary. The rest is history.

But on that day, they the (1) yellow '16, (1) black '16, and (1) black '17. I know that when I took it in for the 600mi service, the yellow one was gone. I couldn't tell if the solo black one was the '16 or '17.

I've found my last two (heavily discounted) dealer leftovers on cycletrader.com. Might be worth a look......

I found mine off of Yamaha's website. It was a 16 and I bought it in 18. They had three, one ES and two non es, bikes. They wanted $500 more for the ES.
Sure glad I bought the ES. I use it more than I ever thought I would.
This was pre Covid, before bike prices went nuts.

A big part of the fun, was equipping the bike just how I wanted. It's sad to see the aftermarket farkle makers have moved on from the Super Tenere. Not as many choices as there were.

Same here. But oddly enough, I thought I would be using the grip heaters more than cruise. As it turns out, quite the opposite.

returning from a 3 or 400 k ride down south a coupla weeks ago, on the southern motorway coming back into town doing about 120kph kinda stood up to stretch. musta done something to disengage cruise...nearly went over the bars...haha that woke me up!
I've done that a few times.
All it takes is for your foot to ever so lightly touch the brake pedal and you better have both hands on the bars.
