Hey Guys,

As I mentioned in my Membership Introduction, it took a while for me to decide on which bike I really wanted. This will be my first adventure bike. There was several Adventure Bikes to choose from. If the Super Tenere was never manufactured, what would be your second choice Adventure Bike and why?

Just Curious,
Big Ed

I would probably join the "wait-n-see" club for an offering from Honda (which may never happen)........

KTM 990 Adventurer, proven history, great engine.
Agreed. I would probably go with the KTM 990 Adventurer, but I might look twice at the V-Strom

800gs was the final bike battling for top position with the Tenere until a couple weeks ago. It might have been the 1200gs if I could shove the motor back inside the bike where it belongs. ;)

No XT12 - I would keep my DL-650. The Strom has served me well.

I would keep my DL 650, which has proved to be an excellent choice. I had it set up for touring and it would travel anywhere.

Yes. That would be a contender here, as well.

Wow. Interesting Responses. I would have strongly considered the V-Strom 1000 for the overall positive reviews and the Price. If I had money to play with, I would try the Multistrada 1200. What is better on an Adventure Bike? Is it a Shaft, Chain, or Belt Drive (Buell Ulysses)? Or is it just a matter of preference?

Just passing time. (Is it May yet?)

Belts and stones do not mix well so that is probably the last choice. As for the other two, no real preference if the shaft is done right like the Tenere, but chains follow the KISS rule and anyone can replace them. Only real downside to the chain is the mess of maintaining them but no big deal. Probably the last factor for me when choosing a bike.

I'd be keeping my Versys and further, if I do not fall in love with my S10 ???, I will have a spanky new farkled out Versys in my garage.

So does this mean that my second choice is actually my first choice.... :-\

From the list it would be the 1050 Tiger, only because the Stelvio has no dealer network. "Other" would be the Tiger 800.

If Kawasaki would add another 350cc's and a half gallon more gas tank to the Versys, That would be an instant winner with me. In my opinion, the Versys is the most appealing looking out of the dual purpose bunch.

No bike with a 17 inch front tire is an off pavement capable bike. The new Tiger 800 looks very capable for the task.
Please explain the 17inch front tire issue? Is a 19inch wheel/tire just a better performer? Hard to believe it would make that much difference, sorry I'm a newbie to DSing so my questions will be ignorant because I just don't know.
