Worth posting this photo a second time for the do it yourselfers and in the future, when people want to remove/replace the fuel pump. This is the o-ring that it is all about:

Romney Cycles said that 7 of 8 they have looked at have been installed incorrectly. It is extremely easy to miss how the black ring needs to be installed for both twist and getting the little tabs in place at the same time. The original ring just wanted to pop out of place. Since Yam is doing this for free, it's worth letting them do.
I've always been a believer of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". My bike is not leaking so I had no intentions of having the recall performed. After reading this I'm having second thoughts. I'm curious if the seven bikes with the o-ring installed improperly were having problems?

Mine wasn't part of the 7 mentioned at Romney's and it hadn't leaked in over 5,000 miles, but it was rolled and looked like it should have been leaking. It was the worst of the 4 done at my dealer's shop in IL.

In general, I think people are a little too paranoid about doing a recall like this. I'm not a huge fan of dealer service departments, but this isn't a tough repair and the chances of them screwing it up are pretty minimal. And I doubt Yamaha is spending $100K on a whim - they wouldn't be doing this if there wasn't an issue that needs fixing.

A final consideration is that a knowledgeable buyer of a used S10 might check to see if the recall is done, either wanting documentation, wanting to see the punch mark on the frame, or both. If I was buyer and the seller simply "blew this off", I would think it at least a minor data point that the seller wasn't keeping the maintenance of the bike up to snuff.

I rode over to Nicholson's and had them do the recall this morning. It was 20F, but the roads were dry, and it's only ten miles away.

They said that my o-ring was fine, not rolled or creased in any way.

I have the Yamaha Tech Bulletin (M2011-008R) on the Fuel Pump O-Ring recall that I will try and post (it might be to big).

The part # for the O-ring is 19B-24486-00 if you want to obtain one yourself.

No problem. It's great when you have a dealer that is willing to work with you!

BTW....I just checked mine, and it was fine. Installed correctly.

Mine is a Oregon bike, since I have another place up there & spend alot of time there. Out of California (aka 'The Peoples Democratic Socialist Republic of Kommiefornia') for good in a few short years. ::012::

Hey everyone,

Had my bike in for this recall for last 2 days. Service is now saying the o-ring is now on back order. As anyone found this to be the case?

tks

Hmmmm, that could explain why my dealer has not called me to bring my bike in. I called them 3 weeks ago so they could order the part and the last time we spoke (about a week ago) they still did not have the o-ring. I find this weird though as Yamaha recalled all bikes and they know the number of bikes shipped to the US. I figured they would send at least that many o-rings to the parts DC's to be ready for the work.

I'm riding mine until they call!

For the lazy folks like myself, I looked at my VIN on my registration and verified it was out of the range of the affected units. Mine was in the 1300's, so I'm ok.

Hope this helps...

Had my recall done today, took about 45 minutes and they sent me out on their demo Tenere instead of making me wait while it was being done ::012:: Great dealership, great bunch of guys - Yukon Yamaha ROCKS. They have the only official demo Tenere in Canada. ::001:: and I just put about 90km on it. My o-ring was fine but was replaced anyway.
