Thanks for the info EricV, I'm in the middle of doing the second valve adjustment, I've ordered a manual CCT for it. The CCT was replaced during it's first Valve adjustment, but was it replaced with the original Gen 1 CCT. I just wanted to know which part failed.EricV said:There have been different failure modes. Spring breaking, shaft hanging up, etc. End result is that it doesn't tension the chain during that short period when oil pressure has not built up on cold starts. Most, if not all, of the failures have been during a cold start. Mine failed after an oil change, on a cold start, so there was a slightly longer period of time before oil pressure built up due to the oil change. I believe this was a causative factor and just maybe, if I had not changed the oil before taking it in, it wouldn't have suffered a failure with slippage and damage to the upper end.
What fails isn't important. It's a bad idea to go playing with your CCT. Attempts to re-tension the CCT have resulted in failures on other, similar Yamaha designs in the past. Yamaha basically says to replace the unit by the second valve check.
Which part as in Gen I or Gen II? (Gen I only), or which part of the CCT? In which case, why? Bin it and move on. While there have been some complaints with the Gen II CCT, no one has identified an actual failure, to my knowledge. And it's not like you're going to rebuild a CCT. I hope the manual version meets your needs.BenSuper10 said:I just wanted to know which part failed.
