I just finished the oem heated grip install and my throttle seems to have excessive play, tried adjusting it and it just feels weird , i've pulled apart the housing 2x and everything looks ok ( I think) anyone else had this issue ?
The downside of the Honda design is each time you turn the bike off the heat setting is cancelled.Kevhunts said:Hey Yamamama, please take a hint on your next heated grip design!
I felt the same as you after my heated grips were installed. When I started using a new YSP dealer I had the head mechanic double check it and he said the previous shop had done it correctly. I still might ask him to add more lube to the cables though next time I'm there.WV SUPER T said:So after 8 months with Fall on the way I had my local dealer install the Yamaha heated grips. They seem to heat up properly, and the throttle opens and closes without any abruptness....BUT it seems signifigantly stiffer to twist the throttle What gives? Did they not lubricate it enough? Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any advice? Much thanks, I'm perplexed. It's really bumming me out because I just got new Conti Trail Attack 2 tires installed which are fantastic and I can't enjoy them because of the stupid stiff throttle thing. What's the deal?
cable slack might not be there. Take it back.WV SUPER T said:So after 8 months with Fall on the way I had my local dealer install the Yamaha heated grips. I have these on the way (from Ebay) and will probably have my dealer install them when I take the bike in for the 600 mile service (very soon). Did you ever resolve the stiff throttle problem? If so, what was the cause?WV SUPER T said:So after 8 months with Fall on the way I had my local dealer install the Yamaha heated grips. I just got the OEM grips and have the instructions. Have been checking this thread for tips 'n tricks for install 'cause the instructions consist of an exploded parts diagram...I would have preferred a few written instructions, but will make do with what's there. There are 7 pages of instructions - that's a pretty big pdf file to upload!!Karson said:Can anyone upload the install instructions if they still have them?
I have Altriders as well, and if you pull all the hardware for the left side panel, you can move it out a couple of inches, and forward just enough to get to the tank bolt.4n6Guy said:OEM heated grips installed today. It took longer than expected but I hadn't considered the time to remove the LHS Altrider crash bar to get the side panel off ...just to get the fuel tank undone ! Wish I had read through the entire (15 pages) thread before starting because as someone else posted I think I could have routed the wires without lifting the fuel tank. Live 'n learn, right? Anyway, I installed the controller as indicated in the instructions, but I like how some have inverted the bracket for a lower profile. I'll give it a try "as is" first to see if I like it then maybe change it later. A couple things that worked well: hairspray for the LHS grip instead of glue; and molybdenum grease for the power wire on the throttle side.
Now I can't wait for the riding season to start!!
Please report back about how the grips work for you. I have them and have an extreme uneven heating problem (left grip lukewarm, right grip scalding hot). I'm waiting for someone with the same problem to come up with a solution for it. Or if that doesn't happen maybe I'll dive into it myself. Can't see there being an easy solution, though, short of ripping them off and starting over.4n6Guy said:OEM heated grips installed today.
