Yamaha does what to the SupaTen moving forward?

Just thought I would seek out opinions about the SupaTen. What should Yamaha do with the development of the Super Tenere. After the evolution of the r1200gs through the years, what path do we think Yamaha will/should go? I for one think that the bike should lose weight,but how/where? :question:

I don't think it will change much - if they need more power it's been shown it's easily doable through electronic means (although EPA might prevent that). Less weight would be good but hard to see where it would come from without a major redesign (and if that had been a high priority - instead of "toughness" - they would have done it in the first place.

To me are no areas in need of big changes - maybe the screen could be better, wheels might be stronger and lighter (I weighed the rear against my V-Stom - Yam wheel is a pound heavier). They might upgrade things like the headlight wiring harness...

But overall, I think we can look forward to "great new colors" for a number of years.

Since you mentioned the 1200GS, I'd love to see an "Adventure" version of the S10 with more ground clearance.

Maybe the S10"R" from the urban enduro video? Yamaha Super Tenere 1200

In the interim, I would very much like the brake rotors to have larger cutouts - the little holes pack with mud and dirt very quickly.

It would be incredibly cool if Yamaha could come out with a 990ish cc twin version with 21" front wheel, etc. that could go up directly against the KTM 990, but that retains tubeless tires and shaft drive.

I agree, maybe an ABS off switch. We will see electronic cruise control on Throttle -By-Wire systems as a common place and or accessory. It would be a simple set-up with a couple switches and taps into a few wires which feed the ECU. I have heard from a legitimate source the new Yammi VMAX has been tapped and cruise control has been done. Something like the Tenere isn't far off since we have fly by wire here. So, just as Triumph has done with the Explorer, others with F-B-W can do this in future.
Other than that, Japanese are smart and use a model for good long time to keep expenses down. Look at the Honda ST1100, 1300 and Goldwing!!!! These things are used for almost 10 years before major changes. I think the Honda ST1300 will come up for a make-over probably utilitzing the VFR based platform of sorts.

I forgot to mention, my opinion is this bike has been designed as we know against the GS rider. Many travel gobally, most travel occasionally or less than globally!!! They need to sell volume or at least competitive volume vs the GS and like bikes. If they make it for the few people who ride Ralley all the time, it wouldn't sell the volume needed to appease the bean counters. They are the only ones in control now of sales. How much money do we make?? It sucks!!!
I still scratch my head about Honda when they can bring in the DN-01 and it flops, but we can't get the X-Tourer like Europe is now getting!!! Oops, didn't mean to hijack thread!!!

- A correct outside air temperature gauge.
- Better rear rack.
- Stock heated grips.

More power definitely they got it so wrong in our first edition sadly, its cost me a fortune getting it right. But its now how it should be out the factory, heated grips, and gear indicator,

+1 on cruise control. A diet would also be nice, but not necessary for me. I just really want cruise as living on in the east of Virginia I need to ride a way to see hills or turns like the BRP.

Cruise control for those long highway runs getting out of Texas. ABS on/off switch. More than 2.5 amps out of the auxilary power outlet so I can blow up my air mattress and tires. That's all, thank you.

I really like that little lever for the sidestand. It works especially well when your boots and everything else is covered with mud!

I never use that little lever and have thought of sawing some of it off. For me, it is a simple process to engage the end of the sidestand (the tab) with my boot and put it down. Just seems natural to me and my boot hits it without looking or fiddling around.
