Like the Feej, the S10 is pretty low maintenance. Oil change at the interval you are happy with. US manual says 4k, EU manual says 6200 (10k kms), so I split the difference and do it at 5k miles. Easy to remember, eh? Normal maintenance is very easy to do. The air filter and plugs require the tank coming up, but that's not difficult. 26k valve adjustments are pretty easy to live with too. About the only thing I let the dealer do, just cause I'm lazy. Shim under bucket is a bit of a pain if you don't have a set of shims.Peter said:I understand your point.
How is it to work on ST10, is it as easy as on FJR? BMW GS and GSA need too much work, there is something that needs to be done, every 6K or so.
I'm just worried about getting S10, because I ride two-up 90% of the time and always 18+ days trips, I know that FJR can handle the weight of camping stuff. I dont know if S10 can carry, three paniers and my wife who is 120LB.
The S10 is not quite the touring beast that the FJR can be, but it's close. Your wife is on the petite side, (tell her that, I'll be a GOD in her eyes), and then it simply becomes a matter of how you pack. My wife rides her own ride, a F650GS, and she has it loaded to the gills. somehow it manages to do ok. ??? The S10 has boat loads of power for a parallel twin 1200. Crank up the pre-load and go. I have panniers and will be mounting up a fuel cell/load platform and fully expect to need a custom shock with a heavier spring, but that's my odd requirements.
For two up, triple panniers, I would also expect to need a custom shock and stiffer spring. A fair consideration for the extra weight. I was running a 800 lb spring on my FJR with a wilbers, pre-load adjustable shock. Great for two up, loaded for travel, or for full 5 gal fuel cell and rally load.
