Now ... not quite sure how many miles qualify as demo ... above 0 miles (obviously) but less than 100 miles? Or 1,000 miles?

What was the speedo reading (mileage) on your bike purchased from your dealer? Less than (or more than) 50 demo miles?

Did you have any concerns?

I would...for the right price.

A buddy picked up a Yamaha Factory demo bike with ~350 miles on it. It included factory luggage (all 3 pieces) the top box liner and the tank bag for $400 more than I paid for my brand new one with 3 miles. Had the demo been advertised a week earlier, I would have bought it before him :)

I would, but I would want them to add some factory warranty. Typically the warranty starts after the bike is put on the road, so you want to know how long it's been registered. If the warranty starts from when I bought it, then no issues.

I would consider it if they would throw in the Yamaha extended warranty and maybe some yamaha accessories.
These demo bikes are looked by a on scene tech at the end of each demo day. As I was told

Warranty period starts once the bike is sold to the end customer. Unlimited mileage so no worries there.

I bought an ex demo (443 miles) and saved about £2500 over the list price at the time, also lucky enough to benefit from a yamaha special promotion and got 3 part luggage, crash bars, fairing wings and piaa spots included for free

I asked that the first service was performed before pickup and have had absolutely no issues with the bike.

Mine was a 6 month old demo with 1k miles. The dealer was no longer doing Yamaha bikes and wanted rid of it. I was the only bidder on ebay and got it for £8k last October. The only extra was a yam top box. The cheapest deal I could find at the time was a pre registered bike, new but the same reg for £9.5k.

Been happy so far and now at 9k miles.

I would consider if it was a pretty good deal.

There is a blue demo bike for sale at the Yamaha dealer in Richmond Kentucky. It has all the Yamaha accessories installed and has some kind of knobbie tires on it and also includes the OEM take off tires with 700 miles on them, 800 total miles on the bike.

I bought an ex-demo with about 150km on it. 40 of those km's were from my own test ride. I got it for about 1500 USD below sticker price at the time and included OEM side cases, bash plate and headlamp protector for the price. Not only that, but the dealer also gave me an amazingly good price for my trade-in that was well beyond what other dealers had offered me. I have had no problems with the bike at all.

Bottom line if you are considering buying a demo is to get some serious discount on the overall deal. Effective value of my discount plus accessories plus trade-in was 20% to 30% off sticker depending on how you count it.

Mine had 3/10 of a mile on it at delivery, they built it the night before

If the price were good, I don't see any issues with a demo other than it wasn't broken in according to Yamaha specs......I know the demo I rode I got on it and red lined it through all the gears during my ride, I assume most others do similar

As avc said earlier, I bought a factory rep bike that he rode to yamaha events. Had 373 miles on it with all the bags installed. The price was definitely right. I have 1300+ miles on it now with no problems.

According to the dealer I bought my bike from the demo's can't be sold until they have been demoed 15 times, so the mileage will vary from dealer to dealer. When I test rode the bike Justbob mentioned the dealer just handed me the keys and said go ride. I rode about 30 miles on the demo and didn't thrash it in any way.

The non demo bike I bought had less than a mile on the odo when i picked it up.

I assume most don't. That's like what, 120+ mph at redline in 6th? ::)

Anyway, the Yamaha break in procedure in the manual has no hard rpm restriction in it, it just says "avoid prolonged operation above x rpm for the first 600 miles..." Then you have to avoid "prolonged operation" at a little higher rpm until 1,000 miles then you run it however you like. An occasional blast to redline isn't gonna hurt anything.

They're all used after we roll 'em off the showroom floor. Yeah, I'd buy a demo and ask the dealer to make a good price on it and the Y.E.S. ::008::

I'd buy a demo. What I would not buy, is ANY bike from a dealer who let me demo ride a bike, and as I was riding I noticed the odometer wasn't moving. This wasn't a Yamaha dealer - this was a dealer with several European brands, and they didn't have demo bikes - they just let you ride floor models. Which I think is awesome, I wish the Yamaha dealers did that too - that's why I'm not going to name the dealer or marque and trash them on the internet. I just don't think that it's proper to disconnect the odometers until they are sold.
