These threads, my favorites, often wander far outside the OP boundaries.

Around here, these are our Wild West threads. The conversations that take place in the saloon.
Pretty civilized though, compared to the saloon over in Dodge City. Folks get thrown out of that place. :)

Where my good buddies, Dallara, Graham, Pluric (loves to get tossed outta town ;) ) and a few others hang.
I lurk from time to time. But I can't hang with the gunslingers. Don't have the guns. LOL

I was set on buying the KTM based on the reviews. Then i looked back at all the reviews and determined the S-10 never finished first or last, and was only a few scores away from the best. Buuuut, it never finshed last in the tests. Yup, I decided on the tweener - not the best, not the worst, and based on my current experience with Yamaha - no brainer.

I follow several forums and from what I read I suspect the LC GS/GSA is at least as reliable as the ST.
They must have come a very long way in a very short time. To go from last place in quality to a tie for first is a tremendous improvement. I guess, congratulations are in order. ::018::

A lot of that has to do with you Snake. You're like everyone's older brother here on the board, and I think the membership here has settled into a congenial fraternity. Sure we have our differences on occasion, and debate is always good to keep it interesting. We just seemed to have found a way to do it without dragging it into the mud. ::020::

::026:: I do the same. Often stop in to enjoy the happenings, but not able to keep up with the faster moving crowd in that bar.

If the Tenere had 140 hp it would be considered a "must have" bike by people reviewing it. I remember the old VW ads in the 60's and 70's and when they got to 40 hp the comment was "when will his horsepower race ever end?" I am sure it is the same with bikes. In some peoples minds a 100 hp 250cc bike would still NOT be adequate. After all...we live in a society where more is just not enough.

I don't think much has changed Pete. In the 60's/70's me and my friends was buying bike because others were winning races with them. I sold a perfectly good Yamaha DT1 to buy an Ossa Pioneer simply because Barry Higgins was winning races on an Ossa. Then there was my Triumph 500cc Trophy Scrambler, because I wanted to be Steve McQueen and there were no Husky dealer in the area. Ahhhh the good old days! ::025::

Possibly Pete, although I think metric owners tend to be more informed than the number one selling brand, Harley.

They do all kinds of things to break the 100hp barrier, Im like holy cow is that really your lofty goal?

Anyhow for hte most part that segment of riders love their bikes, so is it merely the knowledge there is more available that bothers so many?

It is so good now can one "really" tell the difference between a pair of speakers that cost $85,000 or $5,000.
Pffft! $85K!! What a tight wad..
http://www.cnet.com/au/news/the-1000000-speaker/

You can hear the difference between two $85,000 sets of speakers. One of them might be really accurate and some people like that, and the other may have a bit of "character" and some might like that. At $85,000 you never get too much character though. They will both be tending toward accurate, well most of them anyway.

But just as the Audio world went into nuts territory with 2000W per channel amplifiers and porked up on gadgets galore like 20 band graphic equalizers, by the end of the 70's most people settled down into plastic fantastic all in ones or more refined and bare 100W per channel quality stuff.

Eventually, by the 2000's the quality stuff was starting to become poser stuff though. Now it's getting stupid again...

For a mere $480,000 dollars (on special this month only) you can buy this little beauty. 19,500 Watt three phase power required because you need 19,500 Watts and 12 channels these days right? I mean what else are the Billionaires going to spend their money on? Helping the poor or something?

Just the thing you need to drive those cheap passive $85,000 dollar loudspeakers you bought 12 of.

One day KAWASAKI will put the 320HP H2R motor into a trail bike and that will be the new normal.

My comments will simply mirror a lot of what others have said.

The ECU reflash transformed the bike, but I understand why they did it - leaned out for emissions compliance. The fueling was pretty bad, especially the limitations in the first three gears, but it's an easy fix. The other reason (I believe) it got the whole underpowered rap from the rags is it takes a few thousand miles for the engine to loosen up and really deliver what it will.

It's still the best bike I've ever owned, so much so that after three years of ownership I dumped a pretty penny into shiny gold suspension bits, at a point where I'd historically be looking for a replacement bike...

She's a keeper.

Words of wisdom to the OP "don't believe anything you read and only half of what you see" "opinions are like A-holes everybody's got one" Fact is you should form your own by buying or at least a BMW's a KTM's and an ST and then let us know what you like. I did and I happen to like the ST better then than rest. So there's another opinion and you didn't even have to buy a magazine.
