I sold the s10 because it wasn't what I wanted in a bike.
Low ground clearance, a little too wide and a smushy suspension that costs way too much to upgrade were a few reasons.

I got a KLR and instantly i missed, smooth throttle, no vibrations, speed, the brakes, the hydraulic clutch, the clock and the fuel gauge LOL.

I'm waiting for a 600-800 CC version of the s10 and i'll definitely revisit this bike.

Who else sold and is a little home sick?

I suspect everybody who ever sold theirs. After all, the next day you wake up without one.

I can't even imagine.

I did the exact opposite of you num. Had a fully farkled, suspension, seat, handlebars, all the carb mods, eagle mike doodads, etc...and was almost to the point of sending my motor off to wyman wynn in California for a 705 rebuild, '09 KLR.

It was everything I wanted in a bike if I were in no hurry and going RTW by myself. Since I'm not going RTW (not a bike limitation, a me limitation), I ride two up often, and I enjoy a more spirited pace than anything I could've done to allow the KLR to do that, the S10 it is.

I find it challenging to believe there is a significant pool of former owners still here who find us such a compelling group that they could not bare to leave the forum. I mean we have some interesting characters here...but that interesting...?

I suspect your target population is pretty small.

Nope. If you really want to torture num, you invite him to stay. :)
Riding a KLR and reading daily about the Tenere?
Can you imagine?

I've also sold mine to my insurance company (write off), even though it's cold here I miss it and my garage is not as happy without it. I don't post much and now a little less, so I think:) ! I don't feel part of the club with out a Tenere, but some how I find myself here as often as when I had the bike.

::009:: Going from a Tenere to a KLR... That's an experience I'd never want. The KLR is remarkably unremarkable and depressingly bland on a good day. I'm still embarrassed how I bought into the KLR hype. Each to their own though. I wish you the very best!

I remember seeing your post back in early January. Hope you've healed up completely.
As far as being part of the club, once an ST Rider, always an ST Rider. :)

I have gone the KLR route, but from a KLR to a ST.
Tell you the truth, no matter what you do to a KLR (Had a 99 and a 2008) they will be just that..KLR's. I don't miss them at all. I've also went the route of both DR's (650 and 400) and don't miss those either. I almost pulled the trigger on a second hand ktm 690r...but held off.

For the riding that I do, the ST is perfect. yes a bit heavy, but certainly very capable bike. After sitting on a 2014, I would not even think about trading up. Maybe if yamaha stuffs the fz9 or mt07 motor into the ST frame, then I may consider trading in. But I would miss the shaft, the torque, and the overall presence of the blue beast.

I did spend some money on a new fz...ST is still there, not going nowhere

I still have my KLR too. Can't remember the last time I rode it. Not even sure it would start.
Don't have time to work on it though. Any free time is spend on the S10

had a KLR - '05 & an '09.

The '09 was fully totally farkled, came that way from the original owner.

I cannot tell you why I bought the 2nd one 'cause the 1st one was a dud.

Drank oil on anything over 5000 rpm

And the '09 did it worse than the '05.

I traded the '09 for the '12 Supa10.

They gave me $700 more than I bought it for. .woof.

I am totally satisfied with the Supa10 - no need to look anywhere else.

As do I, Pete.

It is what it is. The KLR is a kick to ride in the mud, sand, rocks and anything else that mine has been ridden over and through. Bought a used '09 and haven't had ANY problems with it. It has limitations - as does any motorsickle, but I have a lot of fun on mine. 308 miles cross country in South Central WY last Sept in one day. It's a "caveman bike" - it can be fixed with a Leatherman, crescent wrench, hammer and duct tape.

My ST is for longer, more civilized rides. There's many opportunities around here where, while cruising the "slab" that a dirt road presents itself and just needs to be explored. Unfortunately the brand new (98 miles) white one is waiting for the 14" of snow to go away. Now that I'm old, I find great comfort in a leisurely cruise with shaft drive, fuel injection and "real" suspension!
