I wont enter the desert without Oral Hydration Salts and a few liters of water. Dehydration is no joke. Feels like dying.
Ya I was at the edge of it become dangerous. I had my ice water and stopped every 1 to 1.5 hours. But your right it's no joke and worst I've had is almost having a heat stroke at the NV/CA border because traffic was backed up and it was °112
Worst i had was at Willow Springs raceway, which is in the California desert between Palmdale and Lancaster. On the second day of track school i hit the wall. Puked and almost passed out. ORS + water and i was good in 30m...but without that i was screwed. Taught me a very clear lesson about how its too easy to get dehydrated in the desert. Im used to a forest climate.
I'm tellin' y'all. . . . CamelBak (or similar) and Propel w/electrolytes. You'll feel as good at the end of the day, as when you started out. Did it for years. . . . 10hr days in the Texas heat. :)

I don't like heat at all. Getting to the point of throwing up is bad. I keep lots of water with me and pour water inside of my summer vented jacket just before i take off again and feel good for a while. I really need to get something like Sierra mentioned. I am not out in those conditions very often though. I do enjoy seeing all of our country. The diverse conditions in just a couple hundred miles is amazing. Be careful out there!

Yeah the big thing is dont let yourself feel thirsty. You are already about 25-30% of the way there when you feel thirsty.

I agree on camelbak + electrolytes
