08/27/22 Ride into Pierson Park Colorado on FS119 and views of the wash out that occurred during the 2013 flood. The road is now formally closed at the washout. General Location is about 10 miles south of Estes Park.
This section was tricky riding back up.
Pano of Pierson Park. Twin Sister Peaks on right and the start of the flood area in the saddle between the peaks. FS119 lower right.
With Tenere and center of the photo you can see the upper section of the flood wash. The lower rock out cropping to right of wash is in a subsequent photo to give you and idea of my position.
Once I got to the closed section of the road I hiked into the wash are where the road was. This is looking west up toward the beginning giving idea of width, depth and magnitude. You can literally step across this creek lower right.
Been something to witness eh?
Looking East toward down the valley. Purdy shore this water ends up first in the Little Thompson drainage then The Big Thompson river .
Foot Trail across the wash area.
I doubt the FS has the resources to ever open this road again. Go here on a weekday and I venture you would not encounter another person. The Weather? Typical gorgeous late August Colorado day with mid 70s temps.
