The missus and I rode out to a wildlife preserve, Ash Meadows in the Amargosa Valley, Nevada. We've gone past it many times but never turned on to the dirt road to get there. So we finally made a destination of it, packed a lunch and everything.

The ride was a good test of our cold gear as it was mostly in the upper 30s F. Heated gloves for both of us plus heated grips for me. We weren't cold. Lovely day and all, lunch in the sunshine, walk on a 1.4 mile boardwalk over the fragile (dry) wetlands. The springs in the desert are an interesting juxtaposition.

The ride would have been 210 miles, but a 10-mile dirt road shortcut shaved 20 miles off the return route.
Her favorite part of the trip - the dirt road shortcut ::008::

2-up on dirt road short cuts is why we have a Super Ténéré ::022::

A man after my own heart!
That dirt road short cut influences my farkling more than any of the other THOUSANDS of miles.
You just revealed why.

went back to Gonzales Texas to try some new roads soon i came across this one section that was slicker than snot
Bad timing. Gonzales was beautiful earlier this week when I drove through on my way to Arizona. That mud looks like East Texas red clay snot.

Nice ridin today carrot. Remember Big Bend 2 years ago?
I'd say you and your ST have bonded. Riding that Big Pig around in the mud now, like it's no big thang.
Let's do BB again!

12-18 inches of snow. So I gave it a pat as I started its garage mate, the snowblower!

everything was going fine until the front tire decided to stop spinning so had to take some drastic measures
Even more dirt worthy bikes have had that front wheel lock up in the mud. I had to remove the front fender on my V-Strom in a similiar situation last year also.

Big Bend riding is March 20th for Uncle's Around the Bend Rally. Anybody planning on attending? I'll be there but on my dual sport though not the S10.

Several of us coming with 2 bikes each. WR's and DRZ's for the desert challenge on Friday.
Super Tenere's for the Adventure challenge Saturday. Then I predicted the hospital for a couple of us Sunday.

I should have said we (several old fools) are preparing to ATTEMPT to do both.

We wish the Adventure challenge was first. But alas, we don't control the world. (a shame for 6 BILLION people, really)
Anyways, yea, you should come carrot!

We need at least one Tenere to finish by sundown on Saturday. :)

I met TNWalker (Steve) on the square to go for a ride yesterday. Our Courthouse was burned in the Civil War this one was built right after the war. We have a new "Justice Center" this one now houses historical rememberbelia.

We mostly rode good smooth dirt and it was a beautiful day. 60 degrees and full sun. We did get in a few backwoods spots. Or as folks say here moonshine country. More water crossing than Steve's street tires liked. We both stayed upright and saw some beautiful country.

This is Steve's new 14 not many miles or all his farkles from his 12 on but we managed to put some dirt on it.

I was really glad to meet Steve and ride with him. It was a perfect day the only way it would have been better if it was longer. Still you gotta love warm sunny winter days with very little dust ::008:: Steve it was a pleasure to meet you, so glad you got your second chance to live a long life. I love the way you appreciate it. Next time I make the trip to the Boro to see some of your riding I need to wear out these TKC's before Romney.

Got to give a great Thank You to True Grip (Mark), for inviting to me to ride in his part of the woods. He is fortunate to live in some of the best off-road areas in Tennessee. Definitely has his own slice of paradise there. Mark was a most gracious host, and a great trail guide. His skills far surpass my own and he led me down some of the best trails I have ridden. I managed to keep the shiny side up and had a great ride. Some of the water crossings were a bit challenging on the stock Battlewing on front and Anakee 3 on the back. Not much grip in the slick stuff. A set of Mitas or perhaps some more K-60s are definitely on the short list. I am really liking my 2014. I look forward to our next ride Mark. I would be happy to show you some of the lesser traveled roads in my part of the world. Thanks again for your hospitality. Can't wait to get back up there for more of the Hickman county tour.

Sorry didn't get a lot of pics to post. We kept them moving most all of the ride ::001::
