Just rolled over 13,300 miles, on a 2012 Super Tenere, and my fork seals blew this last weekend. How long did your all's last?

Probably stating the obvious, but it probably depends on how you ride. I'm at 23.5 on mine with original seals. I do have some Kriega fork seal protectors though. Not sure if that makes a big difference or not, but so far, so good.

Over 20k on mine now. I have had shoxsox on them since about 6k and they are still going strong. I was really worried about them on this last trip to colorado. I beat the snot out of them chasing Tabasco and his complete Ohlin suspension around the Alpine loop, and they survived. They will probably go one of these days on my way to work. ::025::

I have 19,600 on one bike and 21,600 on the other. No seal problems at all. One bike has Kriega, the other Dirt Skins. Almost never clean either one of those products. Bikes see a lot of dirt roads and dust. So far, so good.

I had one start weeping ~10k miles ago. I used the 35mm film trick and am at 21k now.

Coastie, it's taking a piece of film and sliding it up and into your seal to pull the grit and grime out of them. Works a charm.

To add to the conversation, I had a weep on both seals about a month ago. Resetting the forks in the triple trees fixed it immediately. I use it off road, I banged some heavily cobbled routes and it took them out of alignment. For an idea as to the terrain I was in I ruined my front tire by tearing the sidewall plies causing a sidewall bulge. No smiley face to the rim, 25 psi, Metzeler Karoo full knob.

21k on mine. Mostly paved roads and no fork leg protection. Both went at the same time. I figured my fault. After waiting a week to get parts from my dealer I changed them out and replaced all the bushings also. Upon removal of the bushings they were bubbling, tearing, and were JUNK!!! I have Y.E.S. so I thought I would stop by the dealer and see if anything could be done after the fact. The service manager says he has never seen bushings do that, and he would check with Yamaha. Another week later I follow up and he tells me Y.E.S. will not cover the parts but if they had done the work it would be covered. I have a feeling he just did not want to take the time to try and get this handled the right way. Good Luck to you all. I would post pics but he kept the parts to show mama Yamaha.

I've heard from Nick at Stoltec Moto (does a lot of S10 suspension work) that failed bushings is actually somewhat common in his findings.

If you have a blown seal, definitely look at the bushings. Those seals fail from contamination. Nothing takes out a seal as quick as a piece of teflon from the bushing.

I ride the hell out of my bike and I've grown awfully fond of wheelies lately, so I'm not surprised mine went. I've got all new bushings, seals, snap rings, and dust boots on the way.

Mine both failed around 20K, maybe some front wheel lofting pushed them over the edge. The bushing did need replacement. I pulled the forks and had the dealer rebuild the forks for about $212. Next time I think they will go to Racetech for a rework.

No seal protectors on mine, either... And 33,000 miles. Probably 90% on-road, 10% off-road.

However, I did go ahead and have the seals replaced when Stoltec did the Penske valving to the forks at 21,000 miles. ;)

Around 40,000 kms on mine with Kreiga covers and no problem yet. Lots of hard use in dirt and gravel. Did the Dempster both directions (1700 kms of dirt) in 2.5 days last year no problemo.

Would say I am on the original seals. But if you look closely, I'm pretty sure my originals are in that little baggy in the middle of my package from Santa. (Santa was very very late though)

I was really into bad luck. Got my ST end of last March and right fork seal failed after just 1400km (1000 miles or so) with no offroad! It wasn't a terrible leak- just a weep. Dealer went to replace seal under warranty. Next thing I know is that dealer replaced complete right fork under warranty. He said that seal had a tear and this was caused by a tiny scratch on the inner tube. It couldn't have been a stone because the scratch was on the back end of the tube. I suppose all's well that ends well (I hope).

I'm jealous.. I plan in doing this after I get my arrow catless headpipe and Bazzaz fuel controller.
