Forgot I even ordered these back in Jan 2021. Barbusters...currently have VPS shields on. Order with Storms for colder weather. Blue matches better than expected. Now some more risky offroad with a wee bit less concern. 89D1FAF5-5214-4154-9F19-34A040AF3176.jpeg

For longer than I can remember, I've always kept a little garage door remote in one of the pockets of my jacket and it was always a minor pain to fish for it and find the button through the outside of the jacket. While stumbling around the web I found the Mo-Door. It's a nice little self contained unit with options for buttons and cable length and seems like a great solution for people who just want to pull out their wallet and get it done. But with a price ranging from $70-$120 bucks, I figured I could get it done for significantly less.

I cannibalized my old pocket remote by desoldering the switch out of it and replaced it with a longer wire. I had a little project box in my supplies and bought a waterproof momentary switch off the Amazon and after about an hour, I had a nice discreet dash mounted switch for less than ten bucks.

When I turn onto my street, I can push the button and by the time I roll into the driveway, the door its already up and I can just roll in.

They make cheap under $20 keychain remote garage door openers. I just took some sticky velcro so I could remove it if parked in front of the house, and stick it to my wing's in the winter and here when I take the wings off for the summer.

It's has decent range (about 1.5 suburban home lengths). They make them for all sorts of doors from the older dip switch style to the newer sync style doors. Got it on Amazon like 5 years ago.

Got it up on the lift to change the oil and check it over.

During the process a new sign showed up.

I decided to lube the dog bone bearings, glad I did as the seemed pretty dry. Bolts were real tight coming off!

The FJR will go on the lift next as it's past due for some love and tires.

Had a few battery struggles lately, and as the bike is 8 years old and probably still on the original one, I decided it was time for a new one. As I’m going to Norway and the Artic Circle next year I thought a YTZ14 would make sense, given the extra demands on being outside and potentially cold!

Now fitted and definitely starting with more urgency.

If anyone has Givi bars, just remove that little plastic bumper thingy and battery removal/fitting is easy.
I’m currently up in the Scottish Borders and the bikes lived outside for five days and nights now, in cold overnight temperatures and plenty of overnight rain, that new YTZ14 has made a huge difference to starting. One touch of the start button and it’s running, every time!

If your battery is a tad lazy and a few years old.........try a 14S, it’s lots better.

Just fitted the higher oomph battery I bought a few weeks ago. Had to remove or loosen lost of Altrider crash bar bolts to make enough (barely enough) room to squeeze the old one out and the new one in.

Not had the bike long and it has always actually started but it turned over so slowly if I hadn't ridden it for a week or if it had been outside in the cold and rain over night that I decided to go for the battery change.

No need to loosen any bolts or remove the AltRiders to swap out the batt.
Just need to rotate the batt while it is still vertical so you can see the terminal facing outwards (a slimmer profile).
Then lower the batt below the battery housing location, at this point some slight to-and-fro movements are needed to find the right
angle for the batt to slip out between the two bars that attach the AltRiders to the bike.
The same procedure reversed to reinstall.
I have performed two batt replacements with my AltRider equipped S10 and while there
is some hand ballet involved it is completely doable with no need to touch the AltRiders.
Just make sure the (+) and (-) terminals are in the right location once reinstalled....

*Next time I will record a vid to show how it is done because my worded steps may seem insane.

My Ballet skills are no where as refined as yours @MFP ! I had to replace my battery on a trip to Arizona last month. I made it to a Honda dealer in Page and they sold me a battery and let me swap it on the less windy side of their building. I could NOT finesse it out, so I pulled the crash bars and completed the swap, then reinstalled the crash bars. What a pain, but they don't call it an Adventure for nothing do they!?!?!?

EDIT...I'll almost pay money for that video!!!

Maybe "ballet" was the wrong word as I have rather large hands with no concept of a "soft" touch so more like hand manipulation.
When I did the most recent batt replacement in Nov. of last year I wanted to do a vid for reference but once
I pulled the lower cowling off to access the batt I noticed that the wiring I did earlier in the year for
my GIVI LED fogs had become a major Charlie Foxtrot and that sidetracked me for about an hour to clean up
the wiring so my vid production was cancelled.
