Re: Quality time in the garage during hibernation.

My bike have been hibernating for a couple of month now, and there is still at least a month until it leaves the garage again. This doesn't mean that I can't spend quality time with my steed :)

Besides the regular winter TLC I decided to add a few items to the bike this year, so today I mounted Givi crash bars and a Givi ST602 tank bag.

The crash bars were easy to install - everything line up nicely. It feels like a quality product.

The main reason for acquiring a tank bag was to have an easy accessible place to store my new camera. It fits nicely in the bag. As a side note my Moto G5 Plus fits perfect in the phone pocket, even with a rugged cover fitted.

Another thing to mention - I checked the front brake pads a few days ago. It's the OEM pads my bike came with. They have done +64.000 km.
To my surprise they were still fine. They had between 2.8 and 3.2 mm left, so not even half worn ???
Hey Don, I just ordered some Givi crash bars today myself after a lot comparing and research. Glad to hear you like them. Random Question for you, do you think you would able to prop your feet on top on the crash bars while riding down the road to simulate highway pegs? A different knee position for highway riding is one reason I purchased crash bars. Thanks

His profile shows Canada. That is probably an OEM Yamaha headlight protector that is available elsewhere but not offered in the United States. You can find them overseas.

Indeed! I found it on Yamaha Canada website, p/n 23P-H4105-00-10. Thanks

Yes that is correct, I bought it from Yamaha here in Canada.

Only just mounted the bars, and haven't ridden with it yet, but I don't think they will be a good or comfortable place to put your feet while riding.

If I feel the need for a different knee position while riding, I just just stand up on the pegs. This also gives my butt a break, change the position of arms/shoulder/back and is good for circulation - and you get a good view ;)

Two Tenere Saturday. Indyrider getting his valves checked and swing arm lubed. Me installing the Yoshimura RS4 on mine.
If in the Indy area, Adam from Adam's Motorsports is all up on the Tenere and less costly than the dealers.

I took two flat pieces of steel and mounted them to the front crash mount and then added folding footpads. works like a charm.

Picked up the Tener today with a new wiring harness.. 100 miles home, seems to run with more balls and gas mileage was decent for running 95 to 100 mph about 75 miles of that ride home. Crossing finger she stays this way from now on.. ::003::

I Carbon wrapped my fork tubes. Here is a photo of one wrapped and one stock. I’ll throw up a finished pic in the morning when it’s light outside. Looks good I think.

Changed the oil and put on new E-07 Dakar tires. Scuffed them in on a 6 degree morning going to work. Not the best temps for that. The next day got to test the emergency braking on new tires as I just clipped the rear leg of a deer on a 16 degree morning. They held traction great even being so cold and held a true line with the rear tire in the air. I am very impressed so far. Not to mention they are getting up my drive with ease. It is taking a four wheel drive with good tires to get to the house right now!

Wired up my new Kuryakyn LED harness and installed my new LED DOT approved driving lights. The harness has its own relay, fuse and switch. I found a trigger wire under the right side upper side cover top plug blue wire far left. This wire powers only after the engine is running. I didn’t want my lights to come on with the key, only after the engine is running. I also installed a switch so I can control them while riding. I haven’t tested them yet but I did roll the bike outside and put the light on the garage doors. They have a great cut-off line on the top so I won’t be blinding on coming drivers. One warning on the links below is the wiring harness shown in the picture is not the one I received. I even emailed with the question that what is in the picture in what I will receive. Not correct but I made it work. This is the first time I have had a problem with a US company “Powersport Superstore in Cedar Park, Texas” that won’t even give me a RMA to return the product. That maybe why they have 16 pages of 1 star reviews. Happy so far with the lights and will try to get them adjusted tonight and take some pictures of the light beam top cut-off. One think I will say is to remove the right side cover you need to remove the right driving light and the right wind deflector.

I had my forks rebuilt with recommended progressive springs and SKF seals just last week. I installed some black 6" Shock Sox. Michelin Anakee 3 front and rear tire, EBC brake pads front and rear. Now i am back at saving up some cash. My next project, phase 2, is Tourateck Explorer HP rear shock. Phase 4, Akrapovic slip on, Arrow headers, ECUnleashed remap. Just never enough money.... lol

I got a little creative today. I ordered a 37 litre right side Givi Outback pannier for my bike to use when I don't need the extra space of the 48 litre one I currently have on the right side. I had previously purchased a set of 3 keyed alike locks from Givi so I only had to use 1 key for all the locks. So if I wanted to stay with one key it meant buying a set of 5 Givi locks keyed alike which isn't cheap. So I went though the three locks I removed when I installed the keyed alike set and found which one came closest to working with the key from the keyed alike set. Then one at a time removed the pins in that lock and replaced it with another that lined up until I had a 4th lock that is now keyed to the other three. So now when my pannier arrives I just have to put this lock in it and it won't matter what I have on the bike they will all be keyed to the same key.
