Added the Rox block bar risers. Effectively moving the bars 1" closer to me and 1" higher. Just about perfect for me at 5'8". That coupled with the seat mod makes for a very comfortable ride. This site is great. I studied long and hard on which risers to use. Didn't want to deal with too much tension on brake and clutch lines and did n't want to mess with longer lines right now. Leaving on a trip to Colorado tomorrow so I'll get to really try them out. ::015::
Cool! I've got a set coming this week, I hope! Did you have to release any of the lines or cables from their original spot?

No not at all. The lines still have a slight amount of slack. I adjust the cable guide some (bent it up) like I've seen people do with the 2" risers. I don't think adjusting the cable guide in this case was really necessary. I definately can't see doing the 2" risers without installing longer clutch and brake lines. Luckily this set up works for me. After my 1700 mile trip next week I should know.

Thanks for the fast response ::008:: I really can't be doing with new lines just for a minor height and aft adjustment............ unless I go the ape-hanger route.

::008:: It would warrant some pics on this site if you did go with Ape hangers though!

Took the bike out for its first shake and rattle test...also know as 'welcome to the fleet, here's what you can expect for the next few years.' It protested a lot.

So far, no matter what setting I try, the suspension is quite unpleasant. Just rough everywhere. I never had these issues with either of the '12, which were for the most part stock, out of the crate however they are set off the sales floor is how they were ridden. At some point I put different springs up front on the '12s, but it was barely noticable. The '15 was so rough at one point I thought to myself, I need to find some pavement. I've never thought that on the other Teneres.

To be fair, it was not a mild road I selected.

Did this rocky water crossing about 5 times today.

I'm still finding Sport mode to be kind touchy down low. That made the first water crossing a bit amusing. I remembered Snake said he rode off pavement in Touring mode, so I gave that a shot. I probably only lasted about 30 seconds in Touring mode. It just doesn't work for me off pavement. It still might in town. Yet to be seen.

Also found the Caribou top case is fairly miserable. There is not a tight fit where it mounts in the front. That means on the rough type roads I'm riding it rattles something awful. I have some thoughts on fixing that with rubber washers. Also, everything inside the case is getting shaken to death. I have road flares coming apart in there, my wallet exploded once, and everything makes noise. Need a solution for that.

Finally the windscreen is not as stable on the '15 as it was on the '12s. It shakes a lot more than the earlier bikes. I think this might be due to the lower windscreen bracket on the bike. The 12's was 2 or 3 inches longer. It appears to make a difference.

After today's shake test, I'd much rather ride my wife's '12 on that stuff than the new one. I suspect I'll get everything worked out. The suspension thing is baffling to me.

DD, did you try different preloads in addition to different damping settings? There is overlap in damping depending on the selected preload, as shown here:

Also, I only noticed more screen vibration on rough roads after I added the same MRA Xcreen as you have. It seems the extra weight up top of the screen naturally contributes to more vibration induced movement. FWIW, the 12, 13 screens will fit if you remove the 15 adjustable bracket.

Good luck with your shake down.

Is your Tenere the standards suspension or the ES? I don't know how differently spec'd the two are but mine is the ES and I take mine on fire tracks Marked 4x4 only and have found for me rider+luggage and Soft -3 gives a very pleasant ride sitting on the seat and when standing over the really rough and loose stuff feels great. The Yamaha em top case is a snug fit so no rattling but like any case you need to pack it well.

I have the tall OEM screen and it does shake, along with the accessories rail, I'd thought about doing the brace mod but found that with some careful selection of mounting brackets for my GPS and InReach the vibration is not enough to make reading the devices difficult. If an after market screen bracket with rail becomes available I will likely change it though.

Another thought is what pressure did you have in your tyres? they may have been a little high for off road.

Thanks Fred, I've seen you post that chart before and I appreciate it. Today I tried one helmet with luggage, and then just the one helmet setting. I did soft -0 through hard -0 on both those. If I could find a setting that is the same as the stock '12 I'd probably be happy just to leave it there.

The screen is fine on pavement with no real vibration. I'm just comparing vibration between off pavement for each bike. I was able to salvage both the Wasp adjuster and the screen from my '12 before it went away. I had to drill the Wasp roughly 3 inches lower to fit the '15. I'm noticing quite a bit more vibration than it generated same setup on the '12.

I have not tried soft -3 in that setting worth a shot.

When you say "I'd thought about doing the brace mod" is the a mod someone came up with? I've not seen that one.

As far as tire pressure, I'm a full pressure kinda guy. I tend to ride rough stuff at a "spirited" pace. Lower pressures would likely result in flat tires and rim damage.

.
I normally ride with mostly empty Trax luggage, plus a soft tail pack that I keep tools, compressor, etc that I always want with me and it weighs about 15 pounds. I had been running solo rider plus luggage for that and sometimes just solo rider and either soft or standard damping for most roads and hard damping for fast, smooth roads.. Recently I tried the two helmet, no luggage setting with standard damping and found that it rides much better for me on fast, unpaved toads. I will try this for my standard setting on regular roads and see how it goes. I guess then, when I have the luggage full, I may need to go to the two up with luggage preload.

Spent three days and two nights in the Smokies. Hit some great roads (around Tellico River and Balsam Mountain) and found very nice camping spots. All around a good time on my Tenere

Don't blame Fred for confusing me. I'm quite accomplished doing that all by myself.

Fred - thanks for letting me know your findings. I did take my daughter out recently and did the 2 up hard -0 setting. That seemed to be the best that day, but our ride was a pretty slow off pavement that day. Maybe I should consider going to that setting again and experiment around some more.

Lower pressure will give you more grip and let you go faster on loose surfaces.

Provided you don't go too low and have good tyres you shouldn't have to worry about punctures or rim damage.

I'm running 28 front and 36 rear with TKC80's and hit speeds of 80-100km/h off road, we typically have very slipper gravel and sharp rocks.

Fitted the Skene dimmer to my Baja Squadrons after the original bulky-white brick smoked itself. The Skene unit is about 1/5 the size and brightness is adjusted by using the high beam switch rather than some rinky dink wireless remote control. Very pleased with the unit so far.

Changed oil and filter... Yamalube 10w40 and Mahle.

Replaced the oil filler cap and right side case cap with aluminum caps.

I have Caribou side cases and while the mounts (Hepco Becker) are rock solid, I find the latches and the handle rattle quite a bit, but that is to be expected since they are a little loose. I hope I will eventually get enough dust and road grime into the joints that they get stuck enough to stop rattling.
And as far as the inside of the case is concerned: WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING? ::015::

Finally added the AltRider foot to my side stand. I say finally because it's been sitting on my desk for a couple of weeks. The provided screws were too short to install the plate. After multiple attempts at reaching AltRider by email, some calls and sending requested photos, I've finally given up on them following through with their resolution.

Not a big deal, just a few screws. It does make me think if I ever consider buying any other AltRider products I'd do it through a reseller and not the home company. My guess in a reseller, someone like Revzilla would have had the situation addressed weeks ago.

Not a reflection on the engineering of their products, but their customer service is not so impressive.

I've ridden with Caribou side case for over 50K miles. The handles of the cases, including the new top case have been completely silent. They don't move unless moved. The cases made noise on the side rack when I had the horrible SW Motech side racks installed. Can't say enough bad about SW Motech side racks. After replacing them with the HB racks, the side case were much quieter. A much better fit. Roger at Caribou told me those latches can handle 300lbs of pressure. Crank them down hard and they get pretty quiet.

I was wondering if anyone noticed that. I had filled the case with my different layers of shirts to keep things from moving around too much. Always worked when I did it in my Givi top case back on my V-Strom. Of course I rode the Tenere a heck of a lot harder yesterday than I ever did on the Strom. I guess common sense was lacking a bit.

Last night I ordered foam for the top case. The pick 'n pluck kind so I can make things a little more stable in there.
