Performed the 600 mile service this past week. Thanks to this forum I did not overfill the oil reservoir. After adding the proper amount of oil and running the bike up to temperature it showed low. Went for a 30 mile ride and it checked out right in the middle of sight window. I know I would have added more oil at first check if I hadn't read comments here to beware.
What? Wish I had read that first. I just did my first oil and filter change yesterday. After putting the exact amount of oil in (3.4L) and fully warming up the bike the sight window showed no oil. I let it sit for 30 minutes and only just barely came to the lower mark so I topped it off by adding another 8-12 ounces.

Why does it take 30 miles or so to get the oil to show correctly in the sight glass? Why would correct amount only be halfway between the marks? My bike was delivered to me by dealer with oil at the upper mark.

After topping off the oil I haven't started or ridden the bike yet. Should I drain some oil out?

No but if it's going to worry you maybe the filter is the best place to seep some out or drain it and see how much really is in there.

Having read the "Oil Change" thread, which I highly recommend btw :)), I don't think it will make a difference to slightly overfill. I do the same on my FJR and it always seems to be just above the sight glass. How I miss the good ole dip stick days.

Fill it up with 3.1 liter without oil filter and 3.4 liter with oil filter / 3.3 U.S. quarts without oil filter or 3.6 U.S. quarts with oil filter and be done with it.

I used some of the procedure tips in the oil change thread. When I got my bike home after purchasing(trailered it, 260 rainy miles) I did not have an air bubble in my sight window. So, potentially it was over full. I just rode it till 600 mile service. I just happened to go 30 miles, but the oil change thread recommended taking it for a ride, then rechecking. My experience was similar to those of others that posted there.

Yep. Dry sump. Will drive the sight-window checkers bonkers.

Hard to let go of and just trust the specs.

Thanks. I did "start" to read some of the oil change thread but seemed like something from Advrider so gave up. Went back and measured the remaining oil in my jug. I only used 3.6L or 3.8qts so I'm going to leave it alone.

Looks over the 2014 Service manual for spoke maintenance (Check spokes before and after break in oil change) 5 mm hex and torque wrench needed.

Installed OEM winglets

Installed OEM tall windshield

Installed helmet guardian and license plate cover (American Flag)

Installed Givi Tank Lock Ring

Installed 2 Ram mounts for iPhone and Garmin Auto GPS

Looking over the rack options and have yet to decide which brand and type ....

Finally got a quick ride in the dark. I moved and it's been in a trailer for almost 2 months. Feels great to have it back! Dang, I love that bike.

I'm in the spring calculation mode before spring. Mind sharing weights, and such to explain your changes and experiences? I'd gladly email or pm if you want to avoid cluttering the thread.

It's amazing how quick a bike can go 'udders skywards' during winter use. Plenty of ACF50 helps, or leave it in the garage like me and pine for summer...

I'm interested in your selection, as well. I've been given a weight of .85, but my mind has me thinking this is too light. The fact you have backed off may be telling me something?
