Probably catch a little grief from someone, but this was my riding buddy today. Full gear. Back rural 30mph roads. Perfect day. Rode to the softball tourney park for 4-5 year olds.

Only challenge was ignoring the "go faster pawpaw"

Anybody gives you grief let me know about it - we'll have a chat. My uncle took me for a ride on his Harley (with zero gear) when I was probably smaller than that young man - changed me forever. I don't think I've ridden a Harley since, but it set in motion a certain passion that's brought me more joy and fulfillment than I ever could've imagined.

Good for him - he'll never forget it....and I'm betting Pawpaw never will either. ;)

Rode it like I stole it! Happened upon a neighborhood out in the country a bit that was started and came to a screeching halt apparently. So, what to do with a maze of flat, curvy, pristine asphalt out in the sticks with no one around for miles?

Oh yeah, that was an absolute blast of peg-dragging fun! I'm convinced this thing would be a hoot at a track day now - does way more than it should for what it is. Prolly take my buddy out there with his Street Triple to see how the old girl fares against another skilled rider on a lightweight street bike - I'm feeling pretty good about her chances...

Installed some new Grip Puppies when I got back - two years in the first set was losing some of its cushiness.

People always have their opinions about riding kids on bikes....if the opinion is never do it...they are WRONG !!!

Great for parents and grandparents to get that kind of time together. I take all of my nephews for rides as often as possible. I keep it to moderate speeds and on roads and areas that are a bit safer, i.e. no interstates, lane splitting, heavy traffic city stuff or dangerous mountain roads. Always in good weather and geared up....everything in life is a risk. Sending our kids to school is a risk (sandy hook, columbine, dozens more) getting in a car....some of my daughters and my best memories are out for rides on my old Harley. We would ride out to Cook's corner or Hell's Kitchen and order a pitcher of Beer {root that is} and a plate of chili cheese fries and shoot a couple rounds of pool like a couple of old bikers...great times.

I had the throttle of a real motorcycle with clutch and gears handed to me at 5-1/2 years old and I would bet it was safer on the back of Gramps CB450 or dads CB750 than twisting the grip off of my own JT60, yet 10s of thousands of people put a bike under little kids everyday. Anyone said "AWWW" when Chad Reed came out at A1 SX with his 3 yr old in matching gear and he rode away on his little yami 50?

Be careful, choose well, ride smart, gear up...but take your kids/grand kids for rides !!! They will remember it forever fondly.

I just bought my 3 y/o her first motorcycle. She will be rocking a brand new Oset 12.5 trials motorcycle in about a week and a half from now.
As long as they can put their feet the pegs solidly, hold on, and pay attention, I say go for it!!!!

First bike was a 50cc mini bike - wish I remembered the brand (Honda, I think) - woulda been 70's vintage - I was 6 years old. Apparently got a late start compared to some...

From there it was:
XR 80
CR 125
CR 250
Nighthawk 450 - first street bike (14 years old)
Nighthawk 750
Katana 600 - first "Sport Bike" - or, as I call it, the biggest POS ever.
GSXR 750
Kawasaki ZX-6
Kawasaki ZX-7R - complete with Muzzy exhaust and original Scott Russell Screaming Chief helmet (it's now a desk ornament in my home office).
10 year life-hiatus (the dark years)
Honda VFR 800 Interceptor
Yamaha Super Tenere - BEST BIKE YET!

Our little town has a recent Texas 5A state championship in softball. Big deal around here. Guess this is why. Lol. Little tigers start young.

Sweet! My 4-year old really wants to go for a little ride with me also. How did you have your little one on with you-in front or behind you? My guy's feet won't reach the passenger pegs.

I had him ride in front of me when he was younger and I had the Road King, but I'm not sure what to do with him on the S10.

In Cali there are laws on age and size of kids on street bikes.
I may be wrong, if someone has the codes feel free to post them, but I think legally they need to be 7 yrs old, and their feet must touch the rear pegs to be legally ridden. Riding on the front is illegal completely.

I say if it is just around the neighborhood put the little ones on the front, if big enough to touch the rear pegs put them on the back. I like putting a back rest of some sort is great for little guys, even if it is just a big pack strapped on the rear rack.

There is no age requirement. Only a requirement to be on a designed for passenger seat and pegs and be in contact with the passenger pegs at all times.

That seems as though you could modify a set of pegs for the kids to put their feet on then.
Like the HD rear sets have that flip up for a different foot position....
There are also some strap kits for grab handles I have seen.
It is like a belt around your waist that has a grab handle on each side like a lot of Jeep guys put on their roll cages...a lot more comfy and secure for little ones.

He rides front, feet on crash bars. I didn't check to see if he fits rear pegs. I live about 6 miles from town and take a back route that will rarely require sharing the road with much anything else.

If I was doing anything wrong, I would probably just get a scolding. Been here for about 25 years. Most of the cops have arrested at least one of my kids by now. We have a report. Lol

Changed engine and final drive oil. Put some grease on shifter bolt. 22,000 miles and wondered when it would need some. It got snatchy last time I rode. Butter smooth once again.

I actually got to go riding! Weather has been outstanding for nearly 2 weeks and my work has kept me off the bike. But gout out this morning before I had to work a game, bundled up for 47 degrees, headed up to Wildorado, out to Vega, down to Hereford then back home. Just shy of 100 miles. Temp was around 57 when I got home and absolutely minimal wind. Beautiful day to ride and I really enjoyed it.

I took my boy for a little spin around the block this evening when I got home from work!

Took the S10 out for a ride and some 2-up motogymkhana practice today while the roads were clear.

found a bumpy, curvy road to test out the new Penske...OMG huge improvement...Worth every penny of the $925.00...Gonna install spring in the front next week, but Nick will probably get the front forks sooner than latter... ::015:: ::015::

That's very cool, where did you get the switch and how is it wired in? I would like to do that!
Switches and bracket from http://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/HDB_Shop/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=catshow&ref=switch_mounts&sid=i7uv9k6n03x576li5d306wh032vql56e

To connect to the dash, remove it, open it up, solder wires where existing switches are, run them out the back cover after drilling out a vent, connect to bar switches. So nice to be able to toggle these functions without reaching to the dash!

Cheers
