Since the forks are at SuperPlush with James Siddal for their scheduled going through and I ]'m at work, not much.

I had a great conversation with James yesterday and we are tweaking some more on the valving since he's in there anyway. A bit more hi speed compression is coming out. Very thorough conversation about where within the stroke the issues were coming from as it determines where to look for the resolve. Mine is in the valving more so than in the air spring side so he'll tweak some things there for me to play with.

Hmmm, looked up Ed at AF1. Hmmmm...........well I did land an unexpected extra overtime this pay period........but then there is this need to add anotheer couple bikes (as in more than one!!) to the stable.........hmmmmm, yea, well, that's what happens when your bike is on blocks awaiting the return of the forks and your stable of bikes went away a few years back when I had some major issues going on. $1.8 MILLION dollars in helath expense for my 29 week preemie just a year and a half after going through major neck surgery myself, etc.

Moto Guzzi V7 Racer
Yamaha FJR-1300
Yamaha WR250

Oh, what is a man to do.......

This thread is about what you have done to your bike not what you have seen while on your bike? Is this so hard to understand? Why then not start a thread of what you have seen?
The very first post in this thread was, " I rode it and washed it".

Over two years and 5500+ posts later, we're not gonna suddenly start strictly adhering to the title of the thread...just sayin'... ;)

I can summarize this wiki pretty succinctly for anyone thinking of visiting down here (Florida).

1) If you see a gator, keep your distance.
2) Don't swim in retention ponds, ever.
3) Don't swim anywhere at night - yes, even a swimming pool (without hitting some lights first) - ever..
4) if you golf and your ball lands near one - take a drop - don't be "that" guy.
5) if you're camping or near water (you're always near water here BTW) keep a close eye on your pets, especially small dogs, at all times.

Basically, just assume there is always one (or hundreds depending on how rural the area) nearby - because there likely is...

Got a new seat!

I'm 6'4 280lbs, not the person Yamaha or any other bike manufacturer had in mind when they designed the stock seat. So I headed to Mr. Ed's Moto to get my seat rebuilt. This is my third seat from Don, his work does my backside well. I wanted an inch or two of height, firming up, leveling so I didn't scoot in to the tank, and the width comes form my width. I showed up and nine, and left about two with the new seat customized to carry this wide load. $450, and that included recovering the pillion seat as well.

Here's some photos, full gallery of the process at:

Cover removed...

Cut off most of the OEM foam...

Layer it up with different foam densities...

Layer, trim, layer, shape, layer sand....

Getting close...

Another layer...

The craftsman with the finished product...

Fantastic weather for the super comfy ride home.

I saw that seat and laughed until tears rolled down my cheeks. The fun of riding, the modifications we make, the creativity, etc. Don't we all love biking?

Well, the temps have started to dip here in the Seattle area. It hit 29 degrees on Saturday when I was out for a ride. And with a daily 44 mile commute in the mid 30's, I decided it was about time for some heated grips.

I decided on the Oxford Adventure heated grips. They were sourced through RevZilla.

It took me a bit to figure out how to get the old grips off. Not having an air compressor handy, I ended up using a long screw driver and a can of DuPont Teflon. Once the screwdriver was slotted up the length of the grip, I sprayed a bit of DuPont in the gap it created and easily scraped the screwdriver around the bar. The grip this effortlessly slipped off. It worked well on both sides. Then I cleaned up the bars to get the DuPont spray off.

I chucked the super glue that came with the kit. Using a tip from my VStrom days, I used a can of hair spray that I acquired with the wife's permission. A quick spray on the bar and inside the grip and the new Oxford grips slipped right on. Within minutes they began to harden, but only after I had adjusted their position.

The first snag I hit was the mounting bracket for the controller. While a Super Tenere graces the box for the Oxford Adventure grips, it just won't work where they say to place it on the bottom of the clutch side mirror mount. I ended up cutting off the mount side of the bracket. Like so:

This I placed on the top side of the mirror stalk.

A little bend and it looks pretty good and should be easy to reach.

Anyway, I haven't finished the whole install and will pick back up when I have a chance. At this point, all I have to do is run the wiring and plumb it into my PC8 fuse block.

Today I'm just sitting in the garage watching the Tenere grow old, BUT on Wednesday I'll get to fill in that big ugly hole on the left side.
And oh what fun you'll have when you do! Seriously, I'm over my sport bike, speed demon days, but that flash remains the best Farkle money I've spent on a bike in 25+ years of Farkling...

My dad is a body and fender guy and I can not tell you how many times a car would come in and the service writer {someone who SHOULD know better} would write "dent on left xxx.." and we would look and NO dent...??? walk around and ta da there is the dent on the right xx... they stand in front of the vehicle and write the ticket and look at it from the wrong POV.

With ALL vehicles it is oriented as if you were operating the vehicle..IE sitting in the drivers seat or standing on the pegs/pedals/helm

Sorry for the hijack

Did you have issues, or just take apart for the hell of it?
Usually it's the Aussie and UK riders that are keen about taking the bike apart to clean all of the inaccessible areas, but Canada is close enough >:D

Leaking final drive seals, cruise control install and maybe a rear shock rebuild/upgrade. Bike have 11 000 miles.

I ride mostly offroad, so there is dust and cooked mud everywhere.
