Took the old girl out of storage, filled the tires with air, and rode about 20 miles to work. Rode 23 miles back home. Now she can rest for the night.

Got some Garage Love today. ::012::

Finished installing my pelican 1200 storm case and 1 gal hydration jug on top of the fuel cell, along with a plastic container for my bike cover. The lid has safety wire loops on the back to keep it present if wind blows the lid off. Unlikely, but at least I won't lose the lid. The water jug has a custom sewn harness with two Q/R clips to retain it to the pan it sits in, and a Q/R fitting on the hose to allow me to easily remove the jug for filling.

The I pulled the windscreen and side deflectors to install the new GPS mount for the soon to be installed second 2610. Redundancy is good, especially when it cost $30 for the GPS in near new condition, though the $85 for the mount stung a little. (man those Germans can't write instructions worth beans. "remove" not "loosen" would have been more appropriate.) ::)

After that, since the side wings were off, I borrowed an idea from the forum and painted them flat black to get rid of the nasty sun glare that sometimes bothers me.

Then I finally swapped out the rear brake pads. Riding over to CA tomorrow, so figured it was wise. One of the side tits was just starting to rub.

Tires checked, all ready for a nice relaxing 500 mile ride tomorrow. ;D

I gave mine it's annual wash and flushed the brake fluid. It's got new rubber front and back and I removed the rear seat and leveled out the rear rack. Since I don't ride 2-up Im going to maximize my useable storage.

I checked the plugs and air filter in the late fall and installed my new oem hazard switch.

The only thing I have left to do is an oil change due in about 500 miles.

Ready for the season - woo hoo ::008::

Ericv,

Dang dude. That's a mile crunching rig.
Thanks amigo, it's getting there. I need to do a lot more. When the Russell seat gets back, it will be much more comfortable. The second aux. light set and CC are the next projects. Got all the parts, just need to get on it. Running out of time before I need to head to Pittsburg for the IBR.

Update - The hydration jug works great. Not my first time making up my own hydration rig, but the Super Ten had some unique needs to get it where I wanted with a gallon of water. The dollar store plastic bin works great for the bike cover too. I safety wired the lid so it wouldn't get lost, which was good, as I bumped it this morning and my honey told me over the CB that it was open. Just reached back and closed it up. It stayed that way for the rest of the ride. ::008::

Had a quick test fit of the new tank bag. I bit the bullet and went with an 8 liter RKA tank bag. It's bigger than it looked in pictures, but still fits the profile of the tank well. I'll be getting it secured to the bike tomorrow. Pics to follow.

My OEM windshield had some bugs on it so I put on a VStream today. Then the thunderstorms came and I watched a movie. Put in on in the low position and will give it a good test ride as soon as possible.

You're such a tease. What-are-you-removing-the-fork-tubes-for, Tim? ::013::
Beautiful day to drive to South San Francisco. Delivered the fork tubes to Super Plush Suspension http://www.superplushsuspension.com/index.htm . James disassembled and flushed the fork tubes, inspected the forks and seals, installed the new fork springs, refilled and set fork oil height. Thought I had all the specs. This is what I remember .95 and 425 mm. Returned home, finished cleaning the triple clamp, installed the fork tubes (had to spread the lower clamps)... got a call and had to be social. Had dinner with friends, came home.

Tomorrow morning I will finish the installation and take a test ride. Before the preload was maxed as were most of the other settings. It will be nice to have adjust-ability and be rid the Novocaine feeling (term borrowed from Miguel Duhamel) while the forks are compressing.

Sunday I am joining a group for a 250 mile mixed media (nothing difficult) ride.

Read once. Jealousy ensued. Will be there in August for VMworld for work and can't wait.

Would love to be able to pick and chose parts along the pch to ride someday.

Let me know when you will be in San Francisco and if you will have time to ride. We will see what we can do to find you a rental or loaner. I am only 100 miles away.

The frontend is back together and properly torqued. Thanks to Twisties for the information and photos. Time to cleanup and head out for a test ride. I know the perfect gravel road (short but sweet) to test a loose surface.

EDIT Test route. More fun than it looks http://goo.gl/maps/sqOy5

I put a sport/tour VStream windscreen (low position too) on a couple weeks ago and finally got a nice 200 mile ride on it today to give it a test. Much better wind protection than the OEM. I am happy with looks and function. I hope you are too.

Took short ride to a sneaky spot along the Cape Fear to test out A'ME Chicane heated grips. Very quick install as there is no glue/epoxy involved. Just slide them on and clamp down the clutch grip. The throttle side locks into a cam that operates the cable ends. It took longer to route the 4 wires to the battery. The best part is a small button on each grip controls heat levels/on and off so no bulky controller to take up space on the bars. Once on, the heat from 1st setting can be felt through summer leather gloves within a minute or so and the 6th setting (max) is uncomfortable with thick, winter gloves. Blue LEDs next to the button alert you to grip status and will auto shut off once the engine has stopped.

The only negatives are grips are over 1/2" shorter than stock (guys with hands like catcher's mitts need not apply) and I waited over a year to put them on the bike. Should have been the first farkle.

I parked it. Amongst a SEA of motorcycles. Rows and rows as far as the eye could see.

My brother just rolled his eyes as we were taking off our gear a gent from Yamaha Europe comes over and asks if he can get a few questions answered on a survey about my feelings about my Tenere. He got disgusted and walked away, later to complain "I don't get it. We go to Deals gap and we are surrounded by motorcycles I have never seen before and there is a crowd around your bike. We pull up here and it's Deals gap times 10,000, and it's all about your dang bike. Nobody says sh%$#t about my bike!"

It was hilarious. What can I say?

Gorgeous day in Austin. Got sun burned to a crisp. I'm an idiot sometimes.

::025:: Sometimes you just have to bow and accept the fame. Work it baby, work it!

Rode the Sequoia National Park today, up into it and over to 180, then down 245, (seriously twisty, seriously empty, fantastically fun road).

Started in Three Rivers, CA, then north from there before coming back down to Exeter. Only rode 100 miles or so today, but great fun and enjoyed it a lot, as did the wife on her own bike, which is a great bonus. She was scraping pegs down 245, which is a new experience for her. ::008::

You were riding in my back yard, Eric! 245 is one of my favorites. For me, round trip 245 to 180 then Hills Valley to 63 through Orosi is 113 miles.

Caught a little sun myself! We were in the fourth row in Lot H. My bike is Jaxonized from belly pan to tank, and no one had the time of day for it! All the love went to the g/f's 2009 green Versys with the Dawson City and Yukon 2012 stickers..go figure!

(I have those stickers too...are they afraid they will be assimilated if they talk to the bedlinered-tank masses?)
