Nothing says "outta my way" like 17 tons of steel moving at 100 kmh spitting 200 rounds a minute of 25mm Frangible High Explosive rounds.......and the 660 rounds per minute from the 7.62mm coaxial machine gun ain't bad either.... >:D
Only 17 tons?

Canada rolls out new Leopard tanks

In October 2003, Canada was planning to replace its Leopard C2s with wheeled Stryker Mobile Gun Systems. However, operational experience in Afghanistan, and in particular during Operation Medusa, convinced the Canadian military of the usefulness of maintaining a tank fleet. Leopard C2s were deployed to Kandahar in December 2006, but they were by then almost 30 years old, and were nearing the end of their operational life. The Canadian government decided to borrow 20 Leopard 2A6s and three armoured recovery vehicles from Germany for rapid deployment to Afghanistan. In late August 2007, the first Leopard 2s were airlifted into Afghanistan to equip Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians).
In an assault on 2 November 2007, a Leopard 2A6M hit an IED and survived without casualties: “My crew stumbled upon an IED (improvised explosive device) and made history as the first (crew) to test the (Leopard 2A6) M-packet. It worked as it should.” wrote a Canadian officer in an email to German defence officials. Canadian Chief of the Defence Staff General Rick Hillier denied reports that a Leopard II tank that was struck by an IED was a write-off, insisting that the tank has been repaired and is once again in use. “The Taliban have been engaged with some of the new Leopard II tanks in several ambushes” and that as a result the Taliban “learned some very harsh lessons” and lost the battle in question “very quickly and very violently.”
The Leopard 2A4M CAN is the upgraded Canadian version of the Leopard 2A4 acquired from the Royal Netherlands Army surplus. The Leopard 2A4M CAN is specially designed for the war in Afghanistan, based on experience gained by Leopard 2 operators. The first 20 were delivered in October 2010 and are being deployed to Afghanistan. Though originally planned to be up-gunned to the L55 for consistency with the 2A6M CAN, the longer barreled guns (optimized for tank-vs-tank warfare) were found to be less than ideal in Afghanistan, therefore it was decided to retain the L44. In addition, only small areas of slat armour were added, in contrast with the fully caged 2A6M CANs. The protection of the Leopard 2A4M CAN has been further augmented with the addition of applique armour resembling that found on the most recent Leopard 2A7+ variant, but modified to fit the turret configuration of the 2A4. Of the remaining ex-Dutch Leopards, Canada will upgrade 42 for training use (though whether they will be fully upgraded to 2A4M CAN standards is uncertain) and convert 18 to Armoured Engineering Vehicles (13 firm and 5 options). Canada has also purchased 15 2A4s from Germany as Logistic Stock Vehicles (for spare parts), and in February 2011 bought 12 2A4s/Pz 87 from the Swiss to be converted to "support vehicles" (likely Armoured Recovery Vehicles).
Leopard 2A4M 62.5 tons.

Okay, I don't have one but my son does. :)

Though not feeling the top of the world but I rode my Tenere to Scott Road to test the new suspension settings. http://goo.gl/maps/wmvgw All asphalt with tight turns, high speed S's, blind turns and elevation changes, an occasional dirty corner, roller coaster ups and downs, not much traffic, though an occasional LEO. A fun road to test your skills as well as your motorcycle.

The Tenere did MUCH better than the rider. I could ride deeper into the corners, recovery out of a corner was smoother and quicker, very stable on hard acceleration out of corners, does not wander during higher speed braking, very stable through the roller coaster, don't look at a corner you aren't serious about, much faster and better than the rider. Have not tested these settings with loaded luggage.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later . . . I did not get to ride yesterday :-[. I will apologize to the bike later today and we will work out a remediation plan. 22 miles to go get cheescake sounds like a good enough reason to ride; that should do it :lamp:

This weekend I became a legit. member of the forum and actually purchased a 2012 blue one and rode it about 190 miles. Still smiling. :)
... and my wife still let me sleep in our bed when she discovered it in the garage Saturday morning! ::012::

Last night I watched some football and poured through the forum postings on panniers trying to decide which ones to get an idea of which ones. Still confused! ???

Did we resolve Salmon Sam's avatar? I'm guessing it is an RD350 after all, later year? maybe mid eighties? Please note the lack of emphasis, but total reliance upon the word 'guessing' ::008::

Installed a Vista Cruise yesterday...took some finagling to get it just right (I screwed it into the throttle cable housing, rather than use the cheesy bracket it came with). Tonight, I pack the bike for tomorrow's early morning departure, SS1000 to Denver via Las Veags...

Rode mine home 450 miles from Robbinsville, North Carolina today. Had to go through 129 (Deals Gap) at 5:00 AM. Road was wet with leaves all over the friggen place. Running that road in the daylight is a walk in the park for me now.
Anyway the first leg of my vacation is over. Did 1425 miles playing on the Cherohala Skyway and many other great roads in the area.
One day of rest and it's off to Bixby. Missouri to meet up with a few of the forum guys.
Life is good

Awesome pics Redawg. Take that sucker to its limits!

Love that part of the country, Scoop. Motorcycle Heaven. Been to Buzzard's Roost yet?

Siseneg - My avatar is a circa 1978 RD350 from Canada (which may explain the colo(u)rs).

That will come in handy! I used mine quite a bit on my SS1000 back in June.

Getting ready to do a BunBurner Gold (1500 miles in 24 hours) in the next few weeks if everything aligns correctly.

Cool - that makes me his Boss. Technically I have 15 Leo 2s, 20 odd Leo 1 C2, and 153 LAV III's....the one in the picture is the one I use myself.

Well not exactly today, but i've really used its TORQUE the last three weeks, using it as a "truck" to tow a political campaign market stall all around our Hilly Country, and 993 km's ith my trailer (made to haul trailbikes and offroad XT500's loaded with almost full dised market stall has really blown my expectations, my beemer got all nervous just hauling the 8crates of beer the trailer can fit in.

Hauling this Stall made of galvanised steel, wooden beams and planks (the upper racks now not in the lower but just ung tigh to each other to prevent lopsiding...) and two baskets full of political pamflets weighing in at a guestimated 180 kg's, trailer, market stall and two big baskets hal laden with paper, it just didn't give way, and still made a GS i met underway sweat, and its rider verrrry grumpy wen he tried to pull of, and lost :)

The Trailer Haul combination

It just is the most thrustfull working horse ever, not as beautifull as a Friasian, its as strong and lively (and also trustworthy) :)

Here the Stall fully extended to give an idea of the steel putting onto the trailer, it wiggled a littel at +120 kmh but never oscilated into unnerving territories, where the Beemer got upset at anything above 110 kmh and really hairraising at 120++

Salmon Sam, Thanks for the info. I SO lusted after one of those when I was in high school. I was riding a Suzuki GT250 with the up-swept pipes and it was a pretty cool ride, but the new RD was just beautiful. I spray painted the heads black and sanded the edges on my bike to mimic the RD, but it wasn't the same ::26::

Umm .. oh .. wait .. what thread are we in??? oops ... umm .. hmm .. I bought a motorcycle cover yesterday .. does that count? :)

Gee, I just can't understand why a slab sided, fabric covered, steel and plank trailer would want to "wiggle a little" at more than 72 mph.
:D :D :D

Schon gemacht, Ernst.

I also can't understand why all those people are looking at the trailer and not the bike.
;)
