Pulled off the EXPs and installed a new Heidenau K60 Rear and the half worn K60 Front. Ready for Death Valley on Thursday. ::014::

Yup. That's a heck of a list right there! ::012::

I just got my TechSpec snakeskins in the mail and they're going on later.

Edit:

It's now later.

Looking good ::008::

Rode today, 111 miles and 80 degrees, bliss. Something strangely relaxing about riding down a gravel/dirt/mud road wondering if your gonna bust your ass....

Spent an hour and a half bringing Mr. T Back up to standard. He was minging from the rain and suffered a couple of surface scratches on the tank from me sleeping on him at the services a couple of times. Looking good now though ::008::

Spent part of the afternoon figuring-out why I wasn't getting power to the Bags Connection City. Turns-out the pin in the upper half of the electified tank ring must be slightly deformed. By turning the pin to a certain postion, I can at least get power, but you can interrupt that briefly by rocking the bag fore and aft. I'm considering getting an exchange for new ring. Will have to find out if Twisted Throttle wants the old ring back.

Oh, and just in case some of the above is clear as mud, the lower ring contains a switch which sends power to the contacts on the ring once the pin is inserted into the hole in the lower ring. Dunno if it's a micro switch or magnetic reed swith, but the one I have is kinda fiddly.

On mine, the pins in the upper ring are spring loaded and the contacts in the lower ring do not have holes, just dimples. You might try some dielectric grease on all four areas and make sure your locking pin is extended the full 6 mm. I had an increasingly bad intermittent power issue and doing those two things solved it completely.

Thanks Eric. I'll try the dialectric. The pin is already adjusted about as far as it will go.

A point of clarification though. My electical contacts are the same as yours. What I'm referring to is the hole where the locking pin goes in. There is a switch in or next to that hole that won't send power to the contact pins until the pin is inserted. When I was playing with it today, it appeared that the pin is magnetic and the switch is a magnet activated reed switch...either that or an awefully quet and smooth micro switch.

Thanks again about mentioning the dialectric, I forgot about that toward the end when my toes felt darn near frozen.

Gotcha. I suspect my locking pin was not quite out far enough to maintain reliable magnetic switch activation, but I also could see arcing evidence on the two contact pins, so did adjust the locking pin out as much as I could, and do the dielectric grease too. Just went out and dabbed a bit more on now, since it's been a while.

Congrat's! Disconnecting the batt is highly recommended, but you'll come-out OK.

Before you install, make for darn sure you at least disconnect the battery's ground. Fireworks are a bad thing in this particlular case 8)

Rode to work yesterday, (night shift), first time riding at night on the Blue Beast. Different kind of high beam system, isn't it?
Not actually a higher wattage bulb, but more like a small louver that lifts up and down to allow the beam to "see" farther down the road.
Wonder how well HID's would work behind these projection lenses, has anyone tried it yet?
Oh, and today, I finished removing the reflectors, rear grab rails, and measured and cut a manilla folder in the shape I want for my future aux dash panel.
I will cut it out of 3mm sheet aluminum tonight at work. :)

I wouldn't believe this if it hadn't just happened to me. I had just gone to visit another forum member because I wanted to show him my new bike. I left his house and headed east on shelbyville road, a popular shopping and dining area, when all hell broke loose. I'm traveling along at slow speed in mixed traffic when I hear a racket behind me. I look in my mirrors, only to see a giant suv weaving and barreling through traffic behind me, followed by a very determined patrol car in full "all or nothing" pursuit! I didn't have enough time to react and I just closed my eyes and grabbed the handlebars really hard and waited for the crunch. He missed me and I sat there stunned as I watched him weaving through traffic so fast that I thought he was going to roll the suv. Then I heard more sirens and I thought to myself "You're not out of this yet. Get off this road, NOW!" I pulled over into a bank parking lot, called the aforementioned inmate and then just chilled for ten minutes, waiting for my nerves to call down. I still can't believe this just happened. Be safe out there, cause things can go pear shaped in a hurry!

Fabricated a small deflector plate out of 1/16 inch aluminum to add to the top of my existing SW Motech Skid Plate. Read on here that this Skid Plate along with the Extenda Fenda is a bad combo, as under heavy compression of the front forks there is a possibility the E.F. can make contact with the top of the Skid Plate and wreck your fender or worse cause a crash. ::001::

Just installed Madstad bracket and it rocks. Maybe I didn't need the touring windscreen on order? Will get a picture in tomorrow since it is going to be in the 80s here in eastern Virginia, global warming? I got the 7/8" bar with it to mount the GPS.
