My bike is stripped down to do the valve clearances. There's 84K km on the bike and it seems like the clearances have been checked & adjusted before (1 shim looks different to the rest).
I have 5 valves out of spec, all Ex. valves and the first In. valve in cylinder #1. All Ex. valves out of spec by approx 0.10mm and In. valve by 0.05mm, all on the tight side. Ordered the shims last night so it will be a few days before I replace them.

Air filter needs replacing. Spark plugs look good, but one which has an out of spec reading of 1.0 / 1.1mm.

Is there anything else to be looking at or modifying while I'm down that deep?

I hopefully won't be down there again until 120K km!!

Have you already upgraded the CCT? If not, and you're a Gen I bike, time to take care of it.

If you know somebody with a horoscope to look in the cylinders, it'd be a good idea to see if you've got a carbon build-up. The point is to know if you ought to start using fuel additive or are OK as-is.

Just curious as what are the causes of carbon build up? Bad gasoline? I know there are "value" gasoline stations out there that I have heard are basically cheaper because they don't have the fuel additives and detergents that the premium companies include. Can it also be riding style? Meaning if you perpetually baby it? Just curious.

cool thanks. I just ordered a manual one.

I noticed when I took out the CCT it came apart out in my hand (internal stay came out of the housing), I haven't investigated it yet but I'm sure this is not normal from them.

Thanks for that!

Will do, I actually noticed carbon build up on the intake valves when I took off the TB's. Additive did spring to mind alright ::008::

I routinely use a gas additive, but one that you can use all the time and is an upper lubricant.
Mainly, Lucas fuel additive, couple ounces every other tankful, or Marvel Mystery Oil sometimes.
Gas just has no lube properties.
Usually buy a gal of Lucas and will last about a year in all my vehicles. ;D

I think a Ouija Board might work better............... sorry Checks, I couldn't resist it.

Pre-emptive offerings I imagine - technically a Borescope, sometimes called a Fibrescope or Endoscope, although the latter is normally used for checking the human interior. Good idea too, save so much tear down time - all the race teams use these.

Yep. The normal exactness of wreckerchecker failed there. Lol

I personally avoid horoscopes. Don't even know which drawer to store them in my toolbox.

Plugged it in to the battery tender, then put a 55T rear sprocket on my wifes XT250 and a new o-ring chain. "SRT Offroad" Cheap ($50 bucks) 428 132 Link chain. I doubt she'll put more than 20 miles per year on it, unless she gets more excited about riding all the sudden.

Might head to Michaux State forest next weekend for a Saturday ride.

Picked it up from the master. Jaxon rolled it out of his shop while I put the trailer ramp down. I got on and rode it a couple of blocks and wondered why he put it in Sport mode. Was not hitting it hard but the back tire slid out and that was on his concrete drive.

Looked and still in T. Wanted to ride more but loaded it up next to the Indian for the 11 hour drive home. Come on weekend!

Gave her a through wash and dry.

Then went for the first real ride of the season, 65 miles round trip. I ran the old gas out of it and refilled it with 4.7 gallons of fresh 93 octane. The ride was a nice mixture of highway and back roads and the engine ran so much better with fresh gas! Now if it would ever stop raining hopefully I can take the S-10 out again!
