Changed engine oil, filter and final drive oil and checked the air filter (all good). Washed her lovingly from head to toe and in a few days will be putting on new A40's, flushing the brakes and coolant. Then she gets put up for the winter :(

Wow! It's been many years since I lived where I can't ride every month of the year. Our "winters" are frequently mild, which makes for pleasant riding. We do have 2-3 days in January & February that ice over. Now the down side is that in July/August our air temp is frequently well over 100*; plus humidity. If you're going to visit down here, October through April is the best. I do not miss putting the bike away for the winter.

I'd love to live where I could ride year round, heat be damned. The heat my be uncomfortable but snow and ice can be a whole new level of discomfort and sadness if things don't go well. Even if the roads are clear, there's salt all over which is just going to do bad things to the exterior. I pretty much hang it up once they first salt the roads and don't ride again until the winter is over and we get a good rainfall to wash the roads clean.

That's pretty much S.O.P. in the rust belt we live in.I put away 2 bikes 1 car and 1 truck for winter.
I've heard of folks that have seasonal vehicles. Nice rust free for the warm months, rusty w/studded tires, for the nasty months.

Few bits bolted on recently,

Dash brackets + light guard from forum member Brynn

Akrapovic exhaust from forum member Rgh999,

Pillion handles from eBay,

Now it's dark so much earlier here I'm considering an aux-light bar - i'm missing the DL650's surprising ability to light the road ahead!

After ~9k miles it's tyre time also - going with Anakee 3's again.

Inspected brakes. 2014 @ 22,300 miles. Rear pads have about 1/3 left. Left front >80% remaining, Right front about 75% remaining.
A little surprised that the rear wears that much quicker than the front.

Debating whether to replace brake/clutch fluids as recommended in service schedule (every 2 years). How many of you 2014 owners have done this, or had it done?

Already bought coolant for flush, waiting on spark plugs and air filter shipment, to do that all at once.

Then went for a cool ride to check the heated Grips...

Reason the rear brake pads wear out quicker than the front is that even though you apply front brake only it also activates the rear brake first because of the linked system which works awesome.

Brake/clutch fluid - in Kentucky it is not that humid and my bike stays in a heated space. I may change fluids every 5 years or so.

Coolant - I pull a sample every year and test the pH at work. Coolants of good quality are typically good for 3 years at least. Look for pH above 7.5...8.0 is even better. You can also check coolant with a precision volt meter. Many dump it way too soon.

I had both fluids replaced last month at part of the 40.000 km service on my 2015.
Both fluids was very turbid.
A friend of mine who rides the earlier model S10 didn't replace the clutch fluid as recommended, and ended up with clutch failure earlier this year.
Replacing the brake fluid regularly is a good way to prevent ABS pump failure.
Both fluids are easy and cheap to replace, so I don't see any point in not doing it as recommended by the manual..?

Made a new rear rack for my 2014 which will be lot stronger than the stock rack. The bike came with a 47 liter Givi Blade top box and it really bounced the stock rack . The new set up works much better.

It is still mounted to the sub frame but now you have access to the back bolt which takes the bounce out.

I went to Demo Day at Hourglass Cycles in Buford, GA and rode an Explorer 1200 and the 1200GS and after that experience I can still truthfully say I am thrilled with my S10.
