Here's what I know...

I get a call yesterday afternoon from my good friend Bever...he has his black s10 ordered with a different dealership.
He tells me his is in and will be set up for Saturday delivery.

I call my dealership and the kid states that he still shows NEXT Friday delivery for mine.

I call him back and explain that my friends bike has been delivered and that he is picking up.his bikes tomorrow.

My guy says he'll call the rep, and find out.

**here's where it gets funky**

The owner calls me back and wants to talk with me.

I call him and he says that my bike is now scheduled for today/friday delivery.

I say I'll be right there.

By the time I get there, my bike is still in the crate, however, the dealers bike Is getting prepped for show on the floor.

Note, that his dealer bike was ordered 1month after mine, and , cancelled when November was the new delivery date.

I go in to talk with him and we get the facts on the financing settled etc...

I point blank ask him how in the world could he be.setting up his own bike, that doesn't have a buyer, and not
Set up my bike that has had a trade of a very farkled and excellent KLR and my $500. Deposit
SINCE DECEMBER 5TH.??
HE STATED that it took his team over 5 hours to set the bike up and didn't want my bike to be the beta tester.

Here's the question...

It seems fishy to me that his bike would be delivered one day in front of mine

Why wouldn't he have pulled his set up mechanic off his own machine when mine showed up

To get me on the road the next day. It'll be Tuesday now before I turn a key on it.

I ain't happy....

What would y'all do...????

I know how you must feel about that but I'd be inclined to let it go. I'd quiet like the idea of them practicing on someone elses bike. Trouble is they already have you hooked and have a bunch of money ... in these cash strapped days I suspect they want to get a bike on the floor so others can throw a leg over it. Again better theirs than yours. Tuesday will be here soon and it'll all be good in the world :) Chill ... have a beer or six think about Tuesday 8)

You can also suggest at delivery that you think it was handled incorrectly. I would suggest to them that you should have had the option of requesting yours be assembled before the dealer version. Explain yourself, and if they are honest and forthright, they'll at least see your point. If not: well, fools always do themselves in, and won't need your help doing it.

Stuff like this, and considerably worse, is why the dealer I'm buying from is 2+ hours away, even though there are several others much closer. Not saying the closer guys wouldn't be square with me, but the one I am buying from is a known good operator, and I see no reason to move on from them while they're still in range. ( I moved here three years ago, I did live right down the street from them) Good dealers are priceless, bad ones are just bad.

Good luck. Don't burn any bridges that don't need burning. reasonable people will see why you had the reaction you had, if put in a non-confrontational manner. If they don't take it well, you'll see the real therm. Quietly find someone else at that point.

Its no 5 hour set up, bike prep is nothing new to a dealer, he is giving excuses. Sorry for your delay, nothing you can do but wait and then think hard before giving him anymore of your business. My dealer called when the truck came in and had the bike together in less than 2 hours. I'll let you know if my wheel falls off. When you pick it up, politely inform him you informed the forum about the poor service they provided.

I know now it may seem frustrating, but in the grand scheme of things (especially in a few days) it really doesn't matter.

By Tuesday, you will be out riding with a huge smile on your face!!!!

Good luck!!

Look on the bright side, at least you know where your bike is. :)

I can't get my dealer to even tell me if my order is in a warehouse or on it's way and at this point in the game they should know this stuff.

These kind of things is where a dealer can make a decision to make some people happy, bad decision I feel. My dealer guys messed up putting the handguards on, got them backwards. The salesman (and a rider) on going back there to watch over my bike, caught the mistake and had them stop and do it right. So, there is some validity to being a beta tester.

Like Rob says tho, in the end no big deal, you will be riding tuesday. Sorry for your added delay.

P.S. Not sure how long it took to put it together, but they were at least 4 hours before it was brought around front.

Ask yourself if after 5 years of ownership will it really matter. Let em practice on the other one and just maybe they will learn something of what NOT to do. If after you take delivery and the way they handled it continues to perturb you, let your wallet do the speaking from there on.

But I do feel your pain.

Enjoy your new toy.

Your dealer may have done you a favor by building his first. My bike will be at the dealers between 9 and 10 today, so will watch it being unloaded. I had a choice, they could build mine first, or, build the dealers bike first.
Mine will be built Tuesday. :D I would much rather they practice on their bike and not mine. :)

Drink a few cool ones and mow the lawn. :D The four days will fly by, compared to the 11 month wait. :))

Took my dealer less than 2 hours to set up. I arrived on the truck at 9am and I picked it up at 11am. If it really took them 5 hours to set their first one up, then I think that you are way better off having them practice on theirs. Have a nice weekend and make Tuesday a happy day.

+1 that he did this for his own sales but it benefitted you. At most dealers, no matter who owns it, an assembled bike goes on the sales floor as a show piece. It makes the delaer look like he has more stock to sell and lets customers make an impulse purchase.

Since his bike is the one out there on the sales floor, all of those customers feet swinging over the tail won't be scuffing and kicking the rear of YOUR bike.

Two hour set up max, for sure. In the overall scheme of things, a few extra days waiting isn't going to matter.

Come on down here to St. Pete. You can ride mine and I'll take my trusty DR 650! We'll lay down some miles, swing in to an awesome Amish restaurant in Sarasota for lunch (with killer apple pie a la mode for desert), cruise up through Ft. De Soto Park on the way back, take a dip in the Gulf to cool off and call it a good day.

Hang on, Hannebone. Yours has landed and I think you're going to love it.

here's a couple of things for you (yes im a yamaha dealer)

build time on a super ten is roughly one hour with a good set up guy, our first one (mine) took an hour and 20 but add 30 mins for the bags set up and also expect an average set up guy to take 50% longer

deliver order, i ordered my personal bike (blue) the day orders were available to be take (i cant remember the date) in feb i ordered two black ones, the black ones arrived thursday together the three blue ones (all with lower vins) arrived fri

like i posted elsewhere dealers have no clue when units will arrive that's up to the shipper and try getting an answer out of them altho from yamaha we have an idea they have shipped but that just means the shipper has them so it can be one to ten days before we see them!

i put out showroom floor bike together before anything else since there has been so much hype about this bike i had customers waiting too see it,

only thing i don't understand is why a dealer wouldn't put a bike together on a sat morning everything else is pretty much just the way it is we try our best and sometimes we mess up we don't do it on purpose and despite what people think the "stealership" isnt just here to take your money and run..........

i get here two hours before we open to clean and shine and im usually here two hours after we close "finishing up" which doesn't usually include counting money trust me!!!!!

John,

I think you've had good advice from the previous posts. At this point in the game I would follow through with the purchase and leave with a grin on Tuesday. Perhaps another conversation with the owner is in order at that time to reiterate your displeasure and doubt as to the story you have been given. Allow him to give you his story one more time. I know you John. I know you well. You are level headed and intuitive to the ways of man so my bet is you know the truth.

Share that you've posted this and that you are probably going to continue your purchasing power elsewhere as well as steer those in your circles to other, more forthright dealerships.

In a week, you won't care. Torrey?????

Buckeye71, I'm in the same situation and don't like that the dealer hasn't been more helpful. :(

Buckeye71,

Who'd you order your bike from? My dealer in Mt. Vernon called Tuesday and said it would be here by the end of the week. I wanted photos of the crate coming off the truck, but he said it was going to be sent from the warehouse directly to an assembly warehouse in western OH, then put in a covered truck and delivered to Mt. Vernon. Friday afternoon I got the call that it was ready for pickup. Picked it up right after the thunderstorm ended and rode home, then picked up the wife after work and went to Easton for dinner. Got out of town right before the next thunderstorm rolled in.

My dealer has 5 bikes in and ready. Mine, one for a guy in Colorado, one for a guy in Idaho, one for the shop owner, and I think the last one is for someone in the Columbus area. 4 blue and 1 black.

Love the bike. Very comfortable but quite a stretch to get my short legs to the ground. Feels like I'm on a very heavy version of my YZ450F. Power is OK, but in the bikes defense I ride a Vmax and a YZ450 so I'm a little spoiled in the power department. Like everyone has said before the bike feels very light and maneuverable when it gets moving.

Hope you get yours very soon!

Many thanks LousyPups!

At the urging of a coworker I placed the order through Lancaster Sport Cycles in Bloom Carroll. He had nothing but great things to say about them. They bent over backwards to get a bike for me this late in the game, so I don't have any room to complain at all.

It just concerns me that they have zero information for me other than it "might" be here next week or the following week, especially knowing that every dealership has the ability to look into thier system to find out if an order is in the warehouse or out for delivery. I'm likely making a big deal out of nothing.

Edit: Years ago I found myself in a situation where a dealer promised me a bike, took my trade in and down payment, and then could not deliver after waiting for more than six months. This was another dealer and karma eventually bit them in the backside as they are no longer in business. It's not the delievery date that concerns me, it's the lack of any solid information.

Don't sweat it HB. I think his statement above was a Freudian slip and he very well may have been doing you a favor.
Hopefully you can/have gotten to over see the setup of your machine.

I can appreciate your frustration, long wait, mixed messages, then he sets up his for the showroom. He is more worried about future sales via a bike in his showroom, than happiness of a customer who has already paid for a bike.

That said, once you get in the saddle and he is in your rear view mirror, it will all be forgotten. As far as Beta testing set up, kick him in the balls and ask how underqualified his mechanics or PDI guy is. Your story only shnes more light on my awesome dealer Yukon Yamah, these guys kept me in the loop, once the bike arrived got a call, allowed me to PDI my own bike ( not the usual way to go, know these guys for years, ride and play with them) took me 2 hours, set up was so simple- bars, wheel, battery, front fender go!!

There were 5 PDP bikes at my dealer, the mechanic was first, me second and the rest I do not recall. Once bikes arrived dealer allowed me to set mine up, mechanic set his up that day after hours, the delaer called the others and asked their timelines. I think number 3 was going to be out of town a dfew days, so they set up 4 and 5. Good guys, great service!!

All those joining the 1st Annual Tenere Yukon event next year will know what I mean after you leave. See you next July.

By the time I spent on this note, can you tell it is raining today!!!! Going for a mud ride on the WR, need my seat time...

When you say "this late in the game" are you meaning you weren't in on the PDP program? If so your bike must be one that wasn't "spoken for" when all the orders went in. If that's the case then maybe your bike isn't tagged up with your name and is coming in to another dealer only to then be transferred to your selling dealer for you to pick up. I would still think someone, somewhere would have info on this particular bike. Hate to see you giving up any good riding days though. If it's any consolation, I'm getting ready to go to work and won't be home until Wednesday evening. Gonna be tough knowing the new bike is in the garage waiting for me get home and ride it.
