6. Outback Motortek crash bars 0/10 (more to come on this when i have time to write a report)
Me again... I'm looking at those and looking forward for that report before I click buy. Did you mixed brands (crashbars and skids) then had to deal with incompatibility issues or just poor fitment (QC issue) turning a basic installation into a project involving powertools?

I bought the complete kit crash bars and skid plate - first off, all the retailer that sells these is incompetent: I was about to buy the Altrider kit but they were unable to get me an ETA for the Kit and my upcoming trip was about a month away: this was the third and last time i deal with them. Regarding the Outback Motortek crash bars I had some serious problems installing them (the right one) - to the point where I stripped 2 bolts: one of them being an engine mount bolt. I had to take the bike to get the crash bars installed and the two bolts rethreaded and installed: the mechanic told me that the right bars where off probably twisted after being welded and during the cooling process - he had to pry them slightly in order for them to fit. I provided the retailer a copy of the bill for the installation and asked that they and Motortek compensate me for half of the expense, and they said no this worked out to about $75 for each

Two months after my purchase I am still waiting on the skid plate - I would highly recommend that you stay away from both the retailer and Outback go with the Altrider or SW Motech

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm in no hurry. Altrider were my first choice but their awesome skid plate for the S10 is no longer on the menu :-( to purchase. I prefer not to mix crashbars and skids brand in order to avoid incompatibility. I'll email them to confirm it can still be bought.

I run a combined setup and the bike is used less as a street bike and more as a giant dirt bike. It has gone down dozens of times and skid over all kinds of rocks. If I would have the OE protection on this bike it would had been broken a long time ago.
ACD skid with Outback crash bars, OE differential guard, Altrider fork protection and Barkbuster handle bar protection.
The ACD and Outback combination and Barkbuster you can literally slam that bike to the ground and will be able to continue the ride, your more likely to get hurt then the bike.

Take a look at these. A couple of guys have them and will probably chime in with their thoughts. It's a combo-deal: T-Rex Racing 2012 - 2021 Yamaha Super Tenere Engine Guard Crash Cages Skid Plate Combo (t-rex-racing.com)
I bought and installed the T-Rex setup 2 years ago, I’m no mechanic but the install wasn’t very difficult, very happy with the way everything turned out. After getting home from the Artic ocean trip this year I did notice a couple of loose bolts so applied some blue Locktite . Blue just makes it slightly more difficult to unscrew, don’t use red because red usually requires applying heat to get it to come loose.

Well done guys.

Let me rephrase, I would like to see pictures of Lund's setup including but not limited to: "ACD skid with Outback crash bars, OE differential guard, Altrider fork protection and Barkbuster handle bar protection.". In other words actual photos of his S10 with all those goodies on it.

Somehow I sensed a mismatch between demand and supply.

I had a horrible experience with Altrider, they would not stand behind the poor quality workmanship of their product so they have lost me as a customer. I too went the TRex route and other than a slight issue with one of the contact points I thought they were great.
A couple of pics with the TRex system and BarkBusters. One note on the TRex stuff, it is heavy, add that to a heavy bike and it is really heavy. However I think they look great and I can tell you from experience they can take a tumble, or two, and a drag across the gravel, and another tumble, or two ;)

I second the weight of T-Rex stuff, but talk about well built!
I can't say enough good stuff about their service and quality. If their crash bars and skid plates are anything like their center stands then they are built like a tank and will last forever.
