No idea which to go for to replace this one, by bs battery I think. Was supposed to have had a new one on when I bought the bike but it's not lasted that long...since Feb. So either they didn't put a new one on or I might have a drain which I'll have to find

If that's a BS battery (talk about truth in advertising) it's not an AGM (absorbed glass mat). Just something that you'd put in your lawnmower. Whatever brand, or type you go with, a YTZ-14S AGM is the number you want. I'm using a generic Batteries Plus, but it gets put on a Battery Tender nightly. Many here like the lithiums better. More juice and less weight. But that means more money too.

I've had pretty good luck with your basic AGM Super Start battery from O'Reilly Auto. They outlasted my OEM Yuasa.

I’ve had the 12S and the 14S which wasn’t much better. Eventually bought a Scorpion stinger lithium battery with 385 cold cranking amps, it’s probably the best thing I ever did to a Tenere, it doesn’t sound like the battery is half dead anymore. Makes me grin every time I start it.

I put a YTZ 14s in last week. Lithium saves weight but I believe take a special charger. Keep that in mind it you are making the swap.
More than that is that if you can damage lithium batteries (kill their life) if they go flat as the OP said he has done at least once.

My 2012 came new with a 14s. I replaced it after 8 years with another 14s, just because it was getting old. I've never had any battery issues or hard start on this bike.

I installed a lithium to replace the almost new 14 battery which was moved to the DR650 to replace an almost new smaller battery. Both exhibited a little bit better turn over though nothing earth shattering. And the cost of a lithium battery charger.

Massive help everyone, thank you. Looks like a lithium would be the way to go but not sure I can afford to buy one and then have to get a special charger for it as well

I did a search on halfords and their website says they don't stock a battery for my vehicle and yet there is a YTZ14S on the website

Went I went into Batteries Plus, the salesman verified that I had ordered the correct battery; YTZ14S. It was not listed as compatible with the Tenere. It is compatible though.

You do NOT need a special charger for lithium iron batteries. You just have to make sure the charger you use does not have a desulfating mode. I have used Deltran Battery Tender's on mine for years. Not that they actually need it. They'll hold a charge for well over a year.

Without plugging my lithium noco into a charger, it can last about 7-10 days before it goes flat. Once it is flat, you have to force charge it because the charger won't recognize that a battery is connected.
