I preempted this problem one week into ownership when I pulled out the OEM lamps and replaced them with a pair of 35watt HID's.

And I said let there be (more) light, and there was. :)

Ha-ha! The ST truly is a gem, except for that lousy headlight bulb! Unfortunately about the only love the moto-journalists give this bike is to say it does everything well but nothing great. It's too heavy, too slow, and lacks all the electronics of the KTM / Ducati / BMW.
Read THOSE forums and one really would think they were pieces of junk.

First off, I really did get over this, for the most part, a long time ago. But having said that, I actually do understand how riding those 3 bikes, all OEM configured, and spending very little time with each of them, would lead them to many of those conclusions.

Instead, I find solace in absolutely believing that if they rode any ONE of the well farkled Teneres that show up at our rallies, oh my what a different impression they would get!
Truth is, the Tenere costs many $'Ks less in many parts of the world. So it is absolutely a piece of cake to address a few OEM shortcomings, and still stay far short of an $apples-$apples comparison, yet level the field on Big ADV prowess with the other 2. At which point, I might add, you get your cake and eat it too, since the Tenere absolutely OWNS the one attribute the Moto journalists won't-can't-and never will address.......reliability.

And finally, if you get real loose with your pocket book, and throw the I-don't-care-what-it-costs-because-I'm-old-and-this-is-what-I-want dollar$ at your Tenere, well......it can be anything you want it to be. Including the best motorcycle in the world FOR YOU.

That is my quest, by the way. I feel the Super Tenere is as good a platform as exists for doing just that. This bike is crazy good. Crazy.

Exactly! With the improvements I have made to my '12 (especially the new clutch basket and CCT,) this bike is about as close to a perfect motorcycle as I could have imagined. I love my Super Ten, and I am counting the days until spring comes. ::008::

Improvements? Well okay, if someone were to give me a really nice aftermarket shock and fork kit I wouldn't turn it down. That being said the Duc, KTM, and BMW will still trounce me in that all important trip to the repair shop!

I think washing out my final drive with kerosene has been the only thing that has kept it from exploding the last 30k miles.

The Duc is a street bike. I think it is absolutely wicked cool. But it's not the real deal in this Biggest Dirt Bike In The World Genre.

The improvements (upgrades) I mentioned are already standard fare for your 2014, so you really don't have anything left to do, other than ride! ::013::

Besides the headlight catastrophe (which I pre-empted with an HID conversion on day 2 of ownership) I have had another on-going issue with my s10 ! The fuel tank!! I keep having to put gas into it. One could figure that with all the problems we have , Yamaha could have come up with something for that ::015::
