Stopped in a shop and looked at the Sig P365s yesterday. . . .

You might want to take a look at the Springfield Armory Hellcat too. Nearly identical to the Sig, but holds a couple extra rounds. Priced similar also. Depending on the store(s) you go to, both will likely be on display. And I still love my M&P Shield PC, but it's only a single stack.

It depends on the State, a non resident can not buy ammunition in California.

Or in California can you bring in ammo from out of state. A resident buying ammo in the state must pass a back round check (simple computer check) at the store, if it goes well, its yours, if not for any reason, a full check is required, which is 10 days.

Where I am at, Walmart usually has the cheapest price unless buying in bulk. Ammo is right next to the live crickets.

just a quick follow on from my previous post. Self/Home defence is not an acceptable reason for obtaining a firearm and will most certainly result in the application for a licence being rejected. This is the main reason why hurleys are so popular in Éire.

My dad was from Waterford but lived a large part of his life in England. There was always a Hurley propped up in a corner near to the door.

My small contribution to this thread. I do not have a weapon. My uncle taught me how to fire a "trabuco" when I was 12 yo. No idea how to translate it but you will see it in the video. After dinner, my uncle took me, the family watching, and showed me how to use the trabuco. It was like an initiation passage. I am 60 now and have not forgotten it. Nowadays it is all more complicated, you need courses and permits, licenses and a lot of money but I learned in the best way with the best teacher and I paid a lot of attention. That was the only time in my life that I fired something that could be considered a weapon.
The trabucos are used in a celebration called "moors and christians" to commemorate the wars between them. This takes place in every town of the provinces of Valencia and Alicante in the east, where my father was from. Here is a video.

I would call those a Blunderbuss, essentially an early shotgun. An early naval antipersonnel fire arm. They were loaded with whatever was laying around, nuts, bolts, nails, rock salt... As long as the powder held out you could keep the boarders at bay.

Yup. The ones in the video appear to have zero recoil. Minimum powder charge, I'm sure. Scary fact: Texas law doesn't even consider them to be "firearms" so they can be carried open/concealed without a license/permit. But, felons are still prohibited from possessing one.

Sierra, you are right. Everyone has a small cup as a measure for the powder. In my uncle's words, "the police says that only one cup, but you put two cups" It was normal at that time. Today, the police is watching and this is prosecuted.

Could you tell how they're being ignited? No primer powder for a flintlock... Looks like just cock and fire.

I will try but please excuse my English and my lack of knowledge about weapons.
You use a percussion cap as a primer. This is like a thimble that fits exactly in its place in the blunderbuss. This part is hollow like a chimney. When the firing pin hits the primer, the powder blows up.
The procedure to charge and fire a blunderbuss is as follows:
Put the powder into the blunderbuss by the mouth of the gun. Hit it a bit to make sure that the powder goes down.
Put the firing pin in the first position. The firing pin has two positions, first is safety, second is ready to fire. I have seen videos on youtube where they go direct to the second position. This is dangerous. If you pull the trigger by mistake, the gun will fire. Even if there is only powder in it, it may be lethal at short distance.
With the firing pin in the first position, put the percussion cap in place.
Put the firing pin in the second position, the blunderbuss is ready to fire and you only need to pull the trigger.
