I just got a call from customs at JFK. They want $88 for duty on my Wasp exhaust and $8 for brokerage fees.
I think that it all depends on where it enters the country. The declared value and the size of the package are likely what caused them to pull it out of line and impose the fees. I know lots of guys in the airline business. In retrospect, I should have asked one of them to just bring it home with them.colorider said:What? I was not charged any such fees for my Wasp adjustable windscreen bracket. ???
And once again the government parasites show up. Brokerage....of what? :question:ptfjjj said:I just got a call from customs at JFK. They want $88 for duty on my Wasp exhaust and $8 for brokerage fees.
ptfjjj said:This means that after I paid $800 for the can, $108 for the shipping, and $88 for customs, the total cost for this farkle is $1K. I'm not sure if I would have made this purchase if I had thought about all of the "extra" costs involved. For those ordering high dollar items from overseas, be sure to add about 25% to get the true cost.

Don't be surprised if you get a bill for the duty from U.S. Customs sometime later this year. They always seem to catch up with me if a record is created of me importing anything.k woo said:Scam.
- They tried to get me for an $8 "Customs clearance fee".
- Wanted a fax with my payment info on it.
- Some guy claiming to be Eric Pars from Priority Air Freight, a subsidiary of Aramex International based out of JFK, phone # 718-244-2758.
- I googled the phone and tracking # he gave me, NO RESULT, though 718 is a JFK area code .
- No google info on Aramex International owning Priority Air Freight either.
- Told him I would email it
2 days later my package from Motorrad Garage was on my doorstep with NO "Customs clearance fee" paid.
Bit bummed out to hear that mate... Glad you have received your goods but that sounds WRONG!!!ptfjjj said:I just got a call from customs at JFK. They want $88 for duty on my Wasp exhaust and $8 for brokerage fees.

Something sounds very wrong ??? Smells to me! Customs charges have always been up front shipping in or out of country.   I do this on Ebay all the time. No problems at all with any extra charges receiving or sending. Sounds like a hostage thing to meptfjjj said:I just got a call from customs at JFK. Yep, as I said.. Transactions under $1000 (USA>Aus or Aus>USA) attract NO tarrif/duty because of trade agreement.Combo said:Something sounds very wrong ??? Smells to me! It is a bit more complicated than that. I just found the tariff schedule of the U.S. Australia Free Trade Agreement, and I think I found the specific area where certain bike parts still carry duties, but they are being fazed out annually til 2015 when they are gone completely. I think that I have grounds for redress, though, because exhaust parts are not on the list at all, so they would fall under "other" which is duty free. I will attempt refund, and if unsuccessful, I will forward complaint to trade commission.Wasp said:Yep, as I said.. Good work mate = Glad to hear it...ptfjjj said:Well, after studying up on the U.S. Australia Free Trade Agreement, I was able to convince Linda at Priority Airfreight that there should be no duty for exhaust parts for motorcycles. She was very gracious about the whole thing and sent an apology email followed by an updated receipt.
