Correct Moby. I have seen two that don't show lights when pressing the starter button.
Personally seen them? I'd be very surprised if everyone on this thread is getting one behavior, but others are different.

why do you check your oil so much? go out side and check it now while its cold, it needs to be between the two marks not at the top not at the bottom but right between the two, in a couple thousand miles when its cold again check it again, if its new it might use a small amount but not enough to harm it, if for some reason your oil light comes on thats the time to put more oil in it!

dont panic people have tens of thousands of miles on this model bike in fact one dude did 50k in a few months with no problems ::008::
If you read my posts you would see that recently three times the oil level was below the window.

Apparently you have never owned a KLR. Oil check is just one of those things to do before riding. Same as occasionally check the nuts and bolts to make sure they are fastened. Tire pressures, probably every week. It is preventative maintenance and only takes a couple minutes. If you don't want to check your Super Tenere that is alright with me and I don't see any reason I have to follow the maintenance schedule of other riders.

No panic here. All I was asking is if the riders see any warning lights when they push the starter button and what happens when they release the starter button. It is a function that all riders do when they ride their Super Tenere.

But it's not something most of us pay much attention to. If the lights come on during the bulb check and go out after starting, I assume things are good to go and so does Yamaha. And since Yamaha doesn't spec what should happen while cranking, I view it as unimportant. You obviously don't.

I'm just curious how many confirmations you feel you need before you can conclude that your bike is normal?

Since I have seen two no warning lights, I did not expect to get all riders seeing warning lights. So this is good for Yamaha and us.

Thanks to everyone that responded.

I do have a KLR but it doesn't have a 685 kit and doesn't use any oil either maybe the two are related since this is not my first KLR and my other two also did not use any oil, the oil light on the super ten is an oil level light as well as a pressure light, if it flickers on while riding your bikes gonna need to be topped up, its a fairly simple idea but seems to work on most modern bikes without fail and most seem to be happy with the way it works inc many in Europe with thousands of miles on their bikes!

excuse our ignorance of basic bike maintenance but you seem to be looking for a problem or expecting it rather than excepting the majority of riders see no problem with the warning light system or the way its set to test before you hit the starter, you say you have seen two bikes that dont show lights?

maybe they are the ones with the problem ;)

p.s. In my store and by the people i ride with im known as the "tire pressure nazi" :D
