Asking what ya'll see when you start your Super Tenere.

- I turn on the key and the gauge cycles through the warning lights turning on and then off.
- When I push the starter button the ABS and Engine warning lights turn on.
- As soon as I release the starter button the ABS warning light and Engine warning lights turn off.

Is this correct or is there an error with the ABS and Engine?

What do you see when start your Super Tenere?

Thanks in advance.

WEll, on my Honda ST1300, the ABS light stays on until you start to move.

The Owner's Manual for the Tenere says this:

The warning light should come
on for a few seconds, and then go off.
If the warning light does not come on
initially when the key is turned to “ON”,
or if the warning light remains on, have
a Yamaha dealer check the electrical
circuit.

Hope this helps R

I am wondering if you see any warning lights when you push the starter button. If so, do they turn off after you release the starter button?

Hey guys I am not just posting this for fun. I am trying to gather this information to find out if there is a problem and if there is I will pass it forward to the dealership and Yamaha. I have been experiencing issues with my front brake lever/brakes and I am trying to discover whether the warning lights are working. I don't need discussion just what you see when pressing the starter button.

Do any of you see the warning lights when you press the starter button? If so, do the warning lights go off when you release the starter button?

I would offer to do the same, but my bike is far, far away. Being a black bike, it is far more likely to behave correctly. I posted the manual excerpt in hopes that you would at least know what it is supposed to do. I'm sure some of the southern folk will be out riding today. They'll help you out. Good luck with it. ::022:: ::026:: R

I thought you might have a blue bike. It would do something different every time. ::025:: ::025:: Sorry, bloke dude. It was early and I'm old. I read it but it went right through my semi-solid little brain. I think TC has a plethora of information now. I'm thinking yours was the final word on the matter. Now I've got to try and find my way home .... wait, I AM home. I think. R

Ignition key turned on: all warning lights on, then off.

Starter button: ABS and check engine light up, then go off when button released.

Never noticed it, but yes, the ABS and CEL lights illuminate during cranking. Unsure why. In any event, whatever your problem is, its not with your warning lights.

Is it that the lever drops as you back the bike up and apply the brake? My lever is almost to the grip by the time I back down my driveway. Works fine going forward.

After 'test cycle' is done they're all out. During actual starter run ABS and Check Engine come on. Go out immediately upon completion of start cycle.

Correct Moby. I have seen two that don't show lights when pressing the starter button.

bloke, just trying not to give premature information to the dealership and Yamaha.

I quit trusting the Yamaha Rep when he posted; "Make sure the owner reads the Owners Manual. The motorcycle should be on the tires when checking the oil." My reply included page 7-12 of the owners manual. I am trying to get a different unbiased Rep involved. My oil level was below the window after three rides then returned to about 1/3 after the following ride. I check the oil the morning after each ride. I would hate to run the engine out of oil especially if I was halfway across Death Valley. If I can't trust this motorcycle I won't own it. I have to trust a vehicle to take an eight week trip into Canada and Alaska.

For all of the "Ride More Worry Less" posters, we will ride when we care too and worry when needed.

why do you check your oil so much? go out side and check it now while its cold, it needs to be between the two marks not at the top not at the bottom but right between the two, in a couple thousand miles when its cold again check it again, if its new it might use a small amount but not enough to harm it, if for some reason your oil light comes on thats the time to put more oil in it!

dont panic people have tens of thousands of miles on this model bike in fact one dude did 50k in a few months with no problems ::008::
