hi, are you sure super tenere is built in Japan? I have seen such post.
because I know e.g. yamaha xt660z tenere is not, is built in Italy, France etc

I am seriously considering buying one but made in japan is the main requirement.

thanks

Good day, robson, and welcome to the Forum. I think it will be pretty easy to track the source of the Tenere to Japan. HOpe you decide to go with one. When you get the chance, please post under Member Intros. Good luck with your quest. ::004:: R. ::022::

Why the built in japan interest? Generally manufacturers take their QC / QA policies with them, so no matter wear the bike is made, the standards are the same.

The one caveat would be anything made of steel from china. Chinese steel is shit; unless it's been inspected by a outside source I consider it worthless. ANSI won't rate Chinese lifting gear for this reason, and last I heard most manufacturers of cars moving into China were not planning on exporting Chinese made vehicles for the same reason.

Yes, it is built in Japan and by memory the town is Iwata.
After the big earthquake, our original bikes were delayed due to the power shutdowns and the electrical parts which were built in the area of Fukishima. The forum you are now part of made a big banner that we sent to the Yamaha employees as thanks and in support. We also collected donations for relief efforts.

The people of Yamaha responded nicely and we really felt a connection.

Why worry where the motoecycle is built. The ST is a very reliable and mostly troublefree motorcycle. If you genuinely want one, buy it.

why worry where is built??? come on, what a nonsense. Are we're having rational discussion? xt660z tenere once stopped to be built in Japan stopped also being reliable.
Sure, made in Japan doesn't mean the same as years ago because built quality of every maker has deteriorated but at least odds are better to get quality product.

As the ST is currently being made in Japan ans as it is of great concern to you that they are being made there (in Japan) BUY NOW and save yourself some unnecessary worry, ::021::

I believe motorcycle VIN numbers, like car numbers, indicate the country of origin via the first digit. A letter or number corresponds to the country of origin. In the past and I believe currently, J stands for Japan. I believe they have had to start using numbers for country of origin too now, but I imagine a quick google would confirm what the first digit means on any vehicle VIN.
My 2014 was made in Japan. I know this because the first digit is a "J" and because on right upper corner of the VIN sticker it has these words, "Made in Japan" ;)

There was a time when the most American made bike was built by Honda, I am not sure now, but I do know that in order to carry the made in USA sticker it only has to be 60 percent made in the USA, and I believe American owned.
