Just wondering what tyres you guys are running with & what sort of wear levels your getting (rear)? I currently only have a 2K on the clock & the standard Bridgestone battle wings while still having a fair junk of rubber left don't look like they will get much past 3500/4000 at best.
Im off on a 2500/3000 mile tour of Europe in the late spring so if possible I would like to change the rubber just before we go. I may well go for road biased rubber to start such as Avon Storm3 3D XM. I used these on my old Triumph, wet/dry grip was great with no sign of squaring off in 3000K miles loaded round Europe this year. Any advice on rubber is appreciated as my initial thought on the S10 is that it appears heavy on tyres, a guy in my local bike club finished his Battle wings off in 3500 miles but I obviously dont know how he rode his bike all of the time.

The question is aimed at UK /European as it been noted on the Triumph forums that the guys over the water get high miles in general over the water as the road surfaces over there appear to be less abrasive.

My S10 came with Metz' EXP's which are OK, I have just shy of 2K on the clock and they only have a small sign of wear. I guess the rear would be good for 6k ? I'm most likely going to plonk for a set of the new Continental TKC70's next however.

Tourance EXP came as standard fitment on the Tiger Explorer, they were generally regarded as being total shite even by Metzeler fans, especially the fronts. If you take a tex near a white line whilst EXPs are fitted the bike wobbles like its having a fit! I have ridden an S10 with EXPs fitted without these symptoms showing. If you like the EXPs try the Tourance NEXT (mark 3 Tourance) these were a massive improvement on the EXPs, great grip wet or dry with good wear. These might be my second choice if I cant get Avons when the time comes, but I will be keeping my ears open on the performance of the new Conty TKC 70s.

Bye the way the original Tourance area apparently now made in China, regular users of this tyre have reported a significant reduction in the miles they do on this tyre now.

My S10 came with the Metzeler Tourance EXP's, I changed them at 8000 miles, (I reckon with another couple of thousand left) for a set of Metzeler Tourance Next's cost £215 for the pair fitted to loose wheels.
I've just returned from a "Nick Sanders" 8200 mile trip of the USA, the rear in squared off due lots of Interstate riding, but has a good 2.5-3 mm left in the centre and barely worn on the sides, front has plenty of tread but it's worn in a strange pattern, although the pressure was checked regularly throughout the 3 weeks I covered that mileage. I was two up and loaded.
Other S10 riders on our trip used Michelin Anakee 2's they looked the biz and faired very well mileage wise. I may try a set of these shortly.
Nick used the Conti Trail Attack 2's and they seemed good too, but then he probably gets them for free!

Road smart 2s. See no need whatsoever for any off road biased tyres when all my riding is on road.

My bike came fitted with Tourance EXP and lasted 7500 miles, all road riding. I then fitted Anikee 3s and have done 5500 miles with plenty of tread left, happy with the grip and feel

My 2013 S10 came with Bridgestone Battlewings. Last August I went on a longish trip (around 4000 km) and since the original Battlewings had around 9000 km on them I bought a set of Metzler Tourance EXP. At the last moment I decided not to change the tyres and left on the trip with the original Battlewings. Back from the trip the tyres still had a lot of thread. I'm now at arounf 15000 km and still the original Battlewings won't give up. Ironically I'm dying for the tyre thread to be eaten up as at this rate the Metzler Tourance EXP I bough earlier this year will be past their 'due date'.

Incidentally, what is the best way of storing new tyres? Since garages store them vertical, I put mine vertical on a 1" block of jablo and rotate them 1/4 turn every so often. Any experiences with storing?

I have used these on Yamaha and ky old gs. Great tyres with more grip and feel than the ex's - which are pretty decent. They last a bit longer as well.

TR91s are similar but with more rugged look.

I didn't get on with the supplied bridge stones. They slipped on surface interchanges. I moved to anakee2 then anakee3. I'm expecting around 8-10k out of the threes.

I used Anakee 2's on my former Guzzi Stelvio, great tyre with loads of grip wet & dry. Used to plough through horse poop and gravel as if it wasn't there too !

I think the main thing with storing tyres is keep them out of sunlight and somewhere cool. I think dealers only store them vertically for space issues, but if you've built a rack they'll be fine. A good choice of bike for Malta's 'bumpy' roads too Juan ::008:: Do you still get groups of bikers meeting up by the Gozo Ferry ?

Hello 2112. Sorry for the late reply as I was away. Yes, that's exactly why I got the S10 - because of Malta's bumpy roads. Although having said that, we're rebuilding all major roads -thanks to UE funding :). But the bike is great on open highways in Europe, which I've done a few times.

We still meet on Sunday mornings by the Gozo ferry and also at Golden Bay (not far away). Let me know when you come this way and we'll meet.

Battlewings on mine since new. Just over 6000 miles now and the rear is about 2/3 worn, front about 1/2 worn.
I use my bike for touring and commuting, I'm not heavy on the throttle obviously.
I'm going to try Conti Trail Attacks when the time comes to change.

I was just in Malta in March this year with some friends, we had a great time. We usually stay at St Julian's as it's handy enough and there is a fair choice of restaurants to pick from. It get's a bit boisterous there on a Friday and Saturday night though ! The day trip to Sicily was long but worth it for Mount Etna, I'd love to do the road up on my S10 ! Take care ::008::

So far my best experience was with Metzeler Tuorance. Those came on my BMW GS. I made 17000 km with them and than sold my bike. Most of the time i ride with my wife and fully loaded. Next owner made another season with same tires before changed them.
But that was on Europe's twisty roads with minimal use of highways. Probably wouldn't last that long on american interstate. :(
