I am replacing two bikes that I love with one that I am sure to love. I traded my 08 ST1300A and listed my 08 KLR650 for sale. I made a deal with a good friend to buy the KLR this week and today I stopped by my Honda/Yamaha dealer where I had traded the ST13. A gentleman was in there looking at sport touring bikes and when the salesman saw him looking at my ST, he told the guy that I was the original owner. I spent some quality time with the customer, telling him about the features, plus all the farkles I had on it and he was very interested. When he left, he told the sales guy he was going to go talk with his wife. This evening I got a phone call from the salesman telling me that the guy and his wife came back and bought the ST. So, now my two main road bikes are gone and I will have to be content with my 98 Super Hawk, 79 Bonneville, 87 XR200R and 4 Bultacos until my Super Ten gets here. Good thing it is not riding weather. :)

Congratulations or my condolences. Never easy to get rid of a bike let alone 2. My DR650 will be on the market in a week or so and the Ducati should follow (haven't come to terms with selling the Duc). If the S10 was here things would be easier.

+1 I put my Concours up for sale the day that I put my deposit down on the S10, and, unfortunately, it sold within a week. Now I am without a bike until the S10 comes in. It is driving me crazy, especially since I have had riding weather most of the year down here in Florida.

Congrats Fred!! My KLR sold a couple months after I ordered my SuperT and my FJR is a temporary "keeper" for the time being.

Well it is good news that bikes are moving. I have heard that it is a buyer's market. Hopefully I won't have trouble selling the 05 ST1300 once the S10 is delivered.

Good for you on the sale Fred. Something tells me you won't miss that ST so much once you get the S10. When I pulled the trigger on the S10 I advertised my DL1000 on Craigs List on New Year's Day and much to my amazement I got an e-mail 45 minutes later from an interested buyer. Two days later he pulls up with a trailer and a pocket full of cash. Two weeks later he was touring Old Mexico or at least that was the plan. I surely won't be missing the DL when the S10 arrives ;D

fredz, there was a long period where i thought NOTHING would or could replace the ST13. The VSTrom wasn't as mechanically sound, but it was more comfortable in many manyways. I think the S10 is going to be a much better step than the STrom.

Yes, I loved the ST and loved the KLR, but I think the S10 will combine the best qualities of that pair of bikes in one bike. Having ridden one, I am comfortable with that decision. I know there will be some features, like the electric windscreen and the well designed integrated hardbags on the ST13 that I will miss, but I am sure that it will provide the adventure touring capabilities that I enjoyed on the KLR, only with horsepower. ;D Plus it will provide the touring capabilities of the ST. I am looking forward to it.

Besides, there's no turning back now!

I may odd man out here, but as soon as I got wind of the S10, I was actively planning on getting one IF Yamaha imported them. I too have enjoyed my ST1300 and the 1100 that preceded it. For me the lower weight and more upright ergonomics is what sold me. Plus being able to ride some gravel/dirt roads has appeal. I have done enough off-road to know that I do not excel there and will not be doing any RTW tours. So I have had no regrets imaking the change. Time will tell I suppose.

For me, the seeds were sown when SWMBO and I spent 10 days on a rental R1200GS on a tour in South America. We both liked riding that bike a lot, and I noticed that back discomfort at the end of a long day was much less of a problem than on my Trophy (and later, the ST1300). However, I was not eager to partake in the BMW ownership experience.

When I first read about the XT1200Z, the idea was very appealing. Same basic riding layout as the GS, shaft drive, etc., but with the expectation of a more appealing cost of ownership.

Like Fred, I'll be replacing an ST1300 and a KLR. I really like both of them, but I think the XT will fill the purpose of both and leave me more room to get around in the garage. And I hope that both my butt and my back will hurt less after long days. :D

The way I see it, every bike is about compromise, or priorities. I think this bike will be the best match for my needs. I'm very excited. The fact that this is the first time I've ever purchased a new motorcycle, and I've never had to wait so bloody long before, adds to that.

Here is my 1972 Sherpa T trials bike. The other Sherpa T is a 1969 model and it is in progress.
