What: Camp-n-Ride

Where: Twin Falls State Park, Mullens, WV

When: Oct 5-8 (Fri-Mon Columbus Day weekend)

Da Plan: Suggested multi-surface rides with a 'trail feel' but no fee OR choose to pay the trail fee and get real H&M dirty.

Spklbuk will be at the campground serving hot dogs and beer :exclaim: for those arriving Friday evening.

Going from ancient memory, about 1 1/2 to 2 miles with the cottages and picnic shelters in between. Twin Falls is a great park.

New route includes the west end of Wagon Wheel Road that Google maps does not acknowledge is a road and assuming it not currently an active haul road, we will not be doubling back at point J. I have not ridden it for about 3 years.

On the ground scouting revealed that Bell School Road out of Mullens has reverted to the coal companies and is now gated off. That precipitated the change.

At this point I'm still in. Does the campground need reservations, and is there a store nearby?

You can reserve a campsite. 25 of 50 campsites are reservable. More info here: Twin Falls Camping

I'm am comfortable doing a walk-in; but I'm not traveling from Timbuktoo.


Yes there is a convenience store(s) with fuel nearby and an IGA grocery in relatively nearby Pineville, say 5-8 miles. Restaurants and other stores for meeting most needs nearby too.

To the best of my knowledge, yes. Three of us camped there a few years ago and they let us all set up on the same site, but I can't remember if they let us split the fee or not; I think they did.

I'm almost certain that 2 "camping units" is standard for all WV state parks, but I'm still looking. I'll post up if I find it.

Unless of course you wanna adopt my ugly a$$! I know they let 3 of us pitch 3 tents on the same site a few years ago, but I guess we all paid the full fee, which obviously is all they are after.

I'm gonna shoot for Dogwood Flats, sites 11-14 unless they are already taken. Grassy flat with some trees. Much of the rest of the campground is forested hillside. My 2nd choice would be 7-9A. Don't have a handle on how much use the campground gets this time of year. We are between the last of the summer campers and the leaf peepers, so I anticipate some open sites. It is however a popular spot for RVers.
