As an aspiring ST owner and a current KLR owner I love both bikes. You know how when you walk into a grocery store and they're handing out free samples and you basically eat dinner there? Thats my riding an ST experience at Bike Weeks and the AIM Expo. Its the KLR way!

Anyway, being on my second one I feel the bike is very predictable on the highway and with enough speed a beast in sugar sand. Does take getting acclimated to giving more throttle when the terra firma gets "terra softa".

Camping trips to Alabama:

This smilie seems appropriate: ::021:: enjoy the trip and post pics. Would love to ride out there someday.
Not to turn you away from the Tenere, but if I was still single I likely would have kept the KLR. I mean the Tenere beats its ass handily in every single category, yet somehow the KLR calls to me.

I enjoyed every bike I owned, but would not own another, save the KLR. I will buy one again mainly to ship for overseas adventures!

The Tenere is just to expensive to ship, as well as to risk being stolen, at least for me.

I think something happens during ownership of any motorcycle that either sets-the-hook or drives people away...kinda like a horse. I've owned many bikes over the course of almost 50 years of a serious addiction. The KLR is one of those bikes I've done some great things on and it set the hook. There are many times I'm planning a "RideAbout", I'll be contemplating my route.... "I should take the XR because of this or I should take the Tenere because of that" and I find myself strapping the gear to the KLR because it'll do it all with very little drama.

About those horses....Buddy, my first one as a kid.....now that lil' fuggar! $0.02

No bike is the bike for everyone and I get everything that Loke hates about the KLR. I honestly don't think a Tenere would replace my KLR but rather accentuate the stable. Riding anything heavier than a KLR in deep sugar sand isn't alluring to me. Likewise traveling the country two up on a KLR has no attraction.

Great analogy. I've ridden very few bikes in my five years of riding so I have little to compare to. I will say after a day of riding with friends on everything from CRF250's to Harleys, I never find myself disappointed to be on my trusty ride.

I'll never get rid of my KLR.

They both pack well.

They can get you to the same places.

I'd rather pick up the KLR.

Try a WR250R.

I've had both the previous generation KLR and the current generation.
The WR does everything the KLR does only better and with less weight, better suspension and a better engine.

The WR screams a bit on the highwy @ 70 mph, but it will never miss a beat.

For me it;s more funner than the KLR because of the reduced weight and better suspension.

My 2015 KLR vs. my 2013 Super Tenere............I'll take the KLR 90% of the time unless I am on a long trip with bigger, faster bikes. I've owned '12 and '13 Super Teneres and ridden locally they feel like big fat pigs with harsh suspension. I use my S10 for road riding mainly because it fits me ergonomically and has decent wind protection, a large output alternator, and great luggage capacity.

I use the KLR for everything and just enjoy riding one. Fix the "doohicky", lube the suspension links, and ride it for a long time with minimal, inexpensive maintenance. The KLR is my go to bike for the past 24 years (owned 9 different KLRs during that time frame) and I just bought a new one two months ago.
