Just got back from a 1200 mile ride down in South Texas.. Ran though about a bazillion butterflies... I killed a few I think.... :D
They didn't plug up and block the radiator though... At one point I was WAY out in the country on dirt roads, there where thousands of butterflies. I had to stop every 30 minutes to clean my helmet visor.. ::26::

Thanks for reminding me Jaxon. I just cleaned the radiator / compartment and installed one of Jaxon's Radiator Screens. Had some serious bugs on the radiator but no butterflies. I did think about the unprotected radiator when I was 60 MPH on Carrizo Plains dirt gravel road.

Thanks Jaxon.

Hmm, I just got home after 1400 miles in the same area. I wonder what my radiator looks like.

man I thought I was the only one getting blasted on texas backroads this weekend. I Mine looked like that, but I had to wash mine to get it back to the dealership. ( I am buying the demo bike, and they let me have it for the weekend. So as soon as I got home yesterday, it was a massive wash and detailing before I took it back.

Excellent idea, you made it?
Where is the guard fixed?, can you open easily the side black plastic cover?
I’m wondering to make similar grills to the rest of front “holes” in the bike…

Ditto (except more like 600 miles in my case). What the heck was with all those butterflies!

Anyway, ya'll have some great country to ride in there. 8)

The radiator is a 90 degree right angle from bugs. Sure some bugs will deflect, but most will just splatter on the plastic in the air intake before the radiator. Works this way on the Goldwing which has air intake the same idea. No bug problems with the goldwing, I don't forsee an issue. I just went out to look at my radiator. I've only got 2400 miles and little dirt, but millions of bugs in Colorado, and I see zero dents and zero bugs on my radiator.
The air intake horns on the Goldwing are inside, under the tuperware and are not connected to the little holes in the front of the bike, which if I remember are just for show and blocked off.

LOL... That was awesome ride !! I have butterflies under the seat, in the cowlings, back behind the dash, found two next to the battery, and two more dead next to the PCV & AT.... how do all these get into all these places ??? :D Did you wash off all that bug juice yet? You might have to chisel it off... :))

Years ago I encountered a swarm of grasshoppers that went on for miles in Wyoming. My old Shadow Aero had a unique look for a long time after that.

And smell? I went through a locust swarm once on my airhead, the ones jammed between the cooling fins were roasting nicely!
