Since I have to take interstate highways to get anywhere...how do these tires hold up to that kind of abuse? Met a Canadian who used these tires to go from Alaska to the tip of SA. Never had a flat. He swore by them.

Pete,
if you're asking about the E07's then I can answer.
I'm on my third rear, and second front set.
Rule of thumb is this...if you're heavy on the throttle, and spending half your time on gravel, being heavy with said throttle, you will on average, get a paltry 8000km out of a rear tire, and roughly 16000km out of a front. A lot of guys will bitch and moan about the mileage, but for the price of the tire, and how much confidence it gives you off road, i'll happily put up with the above numbers.
that said, if you spend the bulk of your time on road, and you are moderately easy on the throttle, that could easily double or triple.

Also keep in mind that I pull my rear tire as soon as there is no center knob to speak of: http://thetenerist.wordpress.com/2013/03/02/mitas-dakar-4-ply-tires/
you could still go a ways on them, but your off road grip is non existent, and the wet traction is reduced by a large margin.

Overall great tire.

My turn; Just went from a worn out K-60 to the new Mitas 07 with the center strip (rib). I think it's a great tire. Running 24psi front and 26 rear, 2-up on 4 different dirt passes=Marshall, Waunita, Monarck, and Black Sage; they grip! Not one unstable moment. And my wife DOES let me know when she's uncomfortable ;). I would prefer the old style without the center strip, but it is what it is. On asphalt, Monarck Pass, 34 lbs f and 36 rear , moderately aggressive, 2-up, no sqwirm and felt fine. I'll buy another pair without question. Satisfied customer. Happy Trails to you all

sorry Bruce, but that's not the case. I'm on my 4th rear mitas, and the center strip is the mid point of wear.
You can easily run these down to the carcass (no more knobbie showing) at that point you should be swapping to a new rear, as they become slick as shit, in the rain.
Riding lots of gravel, I get 8km out of a rear...16km out of a front.

Regarding tire pressure, the mitas guy at mx1canada told me to run the rear at 30 psi, and 32 for the front. I personally run 32 rear, and 34-35 psi front
Thanks, Greg. Good to know. Reading your post and others about the Mitas, I have decided these will definitely be my next skins after my current Anakee 3s wear out.

Cheers,

Bruce

you will not be disappointed.

I'm trying a set of metzeler next on my ST. End of season cold temps, and a california road trip next year seem to fit the bill.
that said, the mitas are the perfect compromise tire.

Just as a data point, the new '14 E-07 center strip looks a lot like the center strip of the older 140 K60 that had a center strip that was narrower than the 150 width and not at the same surface height as the rest of the tire. On mostly pavement, that wore down w/in the first 1k miles. I would expect similar wear on the E-07, knocking off the high spots, so to speak. Wear slowed down after that on the 140 width K60, but it was significantly faster wearing overall than the 150 width K60.

One of the appealing things about the E-07 was that lack of center rib or strip. I look forward to reading reports on how the new style wears.

good call. I have a 140 to finish up first, then on to the new 150's.
Intrestingly the 140 do not have the center strip, and look identical to the 150 width wise.

My E07 have 9k miles and easily will do 3 more. Slightly squared off in the rear, but the extra winter traction is good!

I think Steve Reno has 11k on his.

Total downpour slow down to 40 or gravel, or dry pavement and anything between I do not worry about the tires. Not changing from these.

Agreed. The E-07 wear faster, but if it helps me to stay on two wheels and out of the ditch, it's a no brainer.

There are a decent amount of riders doing the E07 on the rear and a TKC80 in the front. This setup is what I chose. Since the front tire is usually the first to slip out, The TKC80 makes sense to me at least. Better grip than the E07 front, so people say. Every time I pull off of the main highway down here , the bike is on loose stone or loose gravel. Dunno about wear yet, as they just arrived. It is the rainy season now, so won't mount them until January. The stock Bridgestones were fine. Just felt uneasy on loose stuff, if you know what I mean. Can't wait to ride again. Four months down is a bummer.

Anyone mounting the E07 themselves without a machine? I was thinking about giving it a shot but not sure if I should. What about balancing? Was thinking about trying dynabeads.

Just removed the rear Mitas E-07 Dakar with 15,175 miles on it.
It went to Alaska on the chip seal roads , Dempster, Canol roads, Dalton, Telegraph Creek and a lot more abuse.
Great tire and so far the only tire I like better is that Shinko 805 but it doesn't last as long.

Steve

I HAVE to ask, what pressure are you running front and rear?

E07 rear-43 (2 up) 40 (1 up) , TKC 80 front 38. Mostly pavement, 60-70 mph max, dry conditions. Down here, once I leave the main road it is loose gravel, loose dirt and round river rock. I do not change pressure for the short time offroad. They really instill more confidence than the OEM Battlewings. The outfit that does S10 rentals in South Africa uses only E07's and told me the air pressure. He emailed me. I listened. They do not change it for off road. He says it is a nice balance between longevity, traction and comfort....after trying various pressures. Hope this helps.

Steve told me to run 40 ft and rear. easy to remember and it seams to work. Over 12K and I was planning to replace them after 3K to Romney. Now, due to PatrickG not going. so maybe they will last all year!

(Patrick Bro you know I still love you, but learned to ask more question when you say there is only 1 VERY SHORT technical part. I thought I was past that one!!!)
